we all need to call and e-mail his office and let him know how unhappy we
are about this.
If we let this slide another year, the battle may be harder. We need the
language added back in conference committee so it can go before house and
senate this year.

It seems Representative Beard has made some kind of agreement not to push
the brewpub legislation this year. Makes me wonder as we have no
opposition to the bill. I doubt that will be the case next year. If you
wish to email him and let him know what you think, here's where he can be
reached

It was decided that it was time for another
installment of MNHBA club shirts. And somehow it fell
into my lap. My attitude is Go big or go home!, so
this year we are NOT gonna get some plain old T-Shirt.
Instead, Bowling Shirts Baby! Thats right we are
going with some retro style bowling shirts with a
great logo on the back. I will be taking orders and
money during the next two weeks. The cut off date for
orders is, Thursday May 15th. This way, we can be
assured the shirts before we leave for the AHA
National Competition in Chicago.
Everyone is welcome to purchase shirts for themselves,
friends, family, significant others, in-significant
others, and random people they find on the street. We
will be ordering from:
www.bowlingshirt.com/customs.html
All shirts will be screen printed on the back, with a
logo by Gloria Sheehan. It is a bowling ball with the
MNHBA logo on it, knocking down some beer bottles. It
can be seen at:
http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/mnbrewers/lst
There will be a saying under the logo along the lines
of MNHBA Can Knockem Down.
Please include the following with orders:

Your phone number:
Choice of shirt style:
SwingMaster (50/50 Rayon/Poly)(SM-3XL)

almost anywhere)
Large: + $4.00 ea.(Specify Location: chest or
sleeve only)
Choices found at:
http://www.bowlingshirt.com/embellishments.html
Because of price breaks, one-time fees, and shipping,
the base shirt price will be $45.00 each. Since I am
poor, and the shirts are all custom, I will need the
money up front. If we get a large enough order (50+)
you will receive a refund.
Please send Order to me by any of the following:
Yahoo! Group: mnbrewers, under the database section.
E-mail: the_pete33(a)yahoo.com

Please get me Cash, Check, or Money Order (made out to

possible.
Finally, forward this on to anyone who may not have
web access, or is not a member of any mailing lists.
Rock On,

Just a reminder for those of you that are AHA members -- another
benefit of membership is a chance to win the Lallemand Scholarship:
Lallemand, the makers of Danstar dry yeast and Servomyces yeast
nutrient, is once again proud to sponsor the Fourth Annual Lallemand
Scholarship. This scholarship is for one lucky American Homebrewers
Association member to attend the 2003 World Brewing Academy Concise
Course in Brewing Technology (Oct. 27 - Nov. 7, 2003) in Chicago,
Illinois.
The famous two-week WBA Concise Course in Brewing Technology will
provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of the brewing
process, the dynamics of brewery operations, and socioeconomic
issues affecting the industry.
This two-week course (valued at $2,900) is provided at the Siebel
Institute of Technology campus in Chicago, America's oldest and most
recognized brewing school. The winner also receives $1,000 towards
any expenses while in Chicago, one of America's most exciting and
vibrant cities.
Further info and registration instructions can be found on this
web site: <http://www.beertown.org/homebrewing/scholarship.html>.
Cheers,
Susan
I wonder if your friend was pulling that person's leg.
New Belgium Brewing makes Fat Tire.
http://www.newbelgium.com/http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/rate_results/192/607/
As far as I know, it is one of their best-selling beers and is actually pretty good, but the brewery is also known for making even better beer. Many New Belgium devotees kind of turn up a nose at Fat Tire, saying that it's all right but certainly not the best that NBB has to offer (that last comment is kind of hearsay and is perhaps not entirely true).
It is not available in Mpls or the midwest. It used to be, I hear, but currently is not. I have purchased New Belgium beer in Montana, Oregon, and Colorado.
It should have been almost impossible to miss while in Colorado.
hope that helps,
Don

This is a pretty interesting amber ale. Doesn't look too pretty- has a nice big head, but the color is closer to a golden copper then anything that could be described as "red" or "amber." Aroma is quite pronounced and very, very malty. Nice, but almost too much. Taste is similar- huge malt presence followed by some hops breaking through in the end. As the bottle says, a real "biscuit" flavor is apparent and there are also a few alcohol notes which show up in the finish. Pretty drinkable, although the maltiness gets to be a bit much. The bottle claims that this beer's "balance" is its strong point. I wouldn't agree, but I kind of like this one anyway. Worth trying.
