Ok so this is the feeling im getting so far:
1) September is a better start
2) Wednesday, hump day, gives us a good start to the weekend
I have gotten about 15 people for sure that are up for it. The exam
would be in december before xmas. This way we will have 2 BJCP classes
a year rather than one.
Any other thoughts? Locations ideas? etc...

For all of you that dont know what the hell Im talking about Ill repeat:
The head apiarist on campus here has a buncha honey. Its a mix of
clover, wildflower and something else...I forgot. She ONLY has it in 5
gallon buckets. She will sell me a 5 gallon bucket for $95 if I buy 5
of them. I can get them as soon as I get the money from you all that
want some but ONLY if we get 5 buckets worth.
A little math:
5 gallons honey = 60 pounds
$95/60 pounds = $1.58/pound
As I said, ONLY in 5 gallon buckets but you can split them up when you
get them. She has them on campus and ready to sell. She has a total of
10 buckets so more if we need it!!
Everyone that has emailed me they want in, do it again and let me know
how many POUNDS you want and we can get a buncha people in on a few
buckets rather than buying one on your own.
Here is who is in so far:
Jonathan Crist - 2 buckets
Me and cotten - 1 bucket
Let me know ASAP!!!
Kris
The results for the Upper Mississippi Mash-Out are online! Go to:
http://www.mnbrewers.com/mashout/2003mashout.htm
The page will be updated with winning recipes as soon as a few more people
send theirs to me... (you know who you are!)
- Al
It's still cheaper at the farmers market. I'll buy 2 gallons though just to
try it out.

I have a few commemorative Mash-Out glasses left for anyone who missed the
Mash-Out awards ceremony or pub crawl. They are $3 each, 4 for $10. I'll
have them available at the Rahr tour if you're interested.

Subject: Tour Rahr Malting and with the Minnesota Homebrewers

> Ladies and Gentlemen, Beer fans and brewers,

this Saturday, May 10 @ 13:00 or 1:00 pm. The location is the largest
single malting site in the world located in our back yard. The facility is
located just west of "old Shakopee" on Hwy 13.
>
> What do I need to do to go? Thanks for asking. Bring beer (good beer)
for our hosts. Remember, these guys malt barley - lots of barley. Do you
think they enjoy beer?
>
> Become a new member or meet some current members. Membership applications
are always available and as an added benefit, we have some preliminary
membership cards good for 1 year. These cards entitle you to elete
privelages and a few discounts at local homebrewing stores.
>
> What else? Well, consider bringing a camera. Rahr malting is an
extremely tall building and if the weather is decent, the tour may include a
view from the roof. The tour will take you through the complete process of
seeping, sprouting, kilning and they may be transferring some malt if we are
lucky to catch the action. The aroma in this building is incredible and
reinforces the aroma and flavor profile you taste in beer.
>
> The primary delievery and shipping method for Rahr is via rail although
many grain trucks arrive from Canada and the Dakotas every day.

meet at Harkwells steak house.
> 6. Meet Dave Luskey who is a Rahr employee and fellow homebrewer.

> June 13 (yes folks, it's Friday the 13th) and June 14. Camp out in
Mankato. The camp ground is located in Mankato and sounds quite nice.
Nothing formal or exceptional and hopefully, the weather will be better
behaved than it was at last summer's weather extravaganza at the club
campout. Saturday we will take a backroads tour up to Schells and tour the
brewery. If you are driving down on Saturday, try to meet us at Schells in
the early afternoon. After the tour, we go back down to Mankato via a
special winery.
>
> Enough? Never! OK then, when we return to Mankato, we tour Bandana or at
least go there. I truly miss Dave's beverages and will be bringing along
some of the Ol Longshot produced with his culture!
>
> So there you have it. Live and direct from the basement brewery - not
from the office.
>
> Before I send this, Let me send you all a tremendous thanks for all of
your efforts supporting the BJCP classes, the homebrew stores that supported
the judging sessions, the big event at Summit, all of the background work
required to get those wonderful door prizes, and thanks to all the
supporters, spouses, significant others, vendors, (does this sound like the
Oscars?) and lastly, to Jimmie Carter for allowing this hobby to occur
legally in the comforts of our homes. Last but not least, a tremendous
thanks to Al Boyce for his tremendous and extreme efforts with contest
orginization and to Johathan Christ for the amazing orginization of judging
results - we should all be amazed that the contest results were available
the last day of judging.
>
> Lastly (I'm snipping ok?) Judging for Scotch and Old Ale AHA Club-Only
competition will be at Al's house on Wednesday, May 14. If you have any
beers in that category or you would like to help pick the club entry to the
National Club-Only event contact Al via email or call him at 952-927-8968.

Subject: Do you ever do public programs?
Hello. My name is Stephanie Steinwedel and I'm a librarian at the Ridgedale Library. Along with two of my colleagues, I plan public programs for the library. We thought it would be fun to host a home brewing program, sort of a "How to Get Started" type deal. We're certainly open to other ideas, too, though we are a public library and wouldn't be able to do any tasting involving alcohol (Darn! The best part.) I'm running the idea past the powers-that-be to make sure they're O.K. with the idea of a home brewing program, so we're still definitely in the idea stage. But if they're amenable, we'd probably be looking at next winter (Jan/Feb/Mar)
Is that something you've done before or would be interested in doing?

First round results from Holy Field winery:
At least these are the one I can remember.
Susan Ruud had 2 or 3 place. The only person registered as PHC to
place.
Arlin Karger - Cloudy Town Brewers I think 2 entries.
MHBA
Steve Piatz 3 entries including a Lambic and mead
Al Boyce I forget how many entries at least 3, including 1st place in
one of the mead categories.
Gary Westman 2 entries placed.
That the list I can remember.
Congratulations!
Quality seemed even higher than previous years.
I found the Belgian strongs to very good - 2 thirds scoreing 35+.
Wheats were similiar. American lagers -- better than I expected,
which were about 1/2 standard am lager and 1/2 CAP.
Lambic's however were a mixed bag.
The number of judges were short, so some of us got pulled into
a thrid flight that day as soon as the second got down to the
chicago style taste off.
I didn't know - one of the Boulevard brewers is from Belgium.
We were together on the stong Belgians and the lambics.
