In case you want to enter some beers this fall in a local competition. I believe there is some spillover between clubs, too?
Off topic here .
Beth and I are hosting a Music Party in our backyard in St.Louis Park this
Saturday with Mick Sterling and THE IRRESISTIBLES!
http://irresistiblesmusic.com/The_Irresistibles/Cover.html
$20 suggested donation for the band.
BBQ and pot-luck starts at 5pm, music is from 6-9pm, with a bonfire and
sing-along afterwards.
I have the club jockey box, and will have an Irish Red on tap - bring a keg
of yours if you'd like to share.
Drop me an email if you want more info!

Hey everyone. I've got a blonde-ale which I added about an ounce of citra
hops at the end of the boil. Im looking to get some honest feedback so I'm
going to enter it into the Nordeast Big River Homebrew competition. My
question is do I enter it under 6B Blonde Ale and specify the citra hops
used at the end (the IBUs should still be within Blonde Ale specs) or under
a different category like 23A Specialty Beer since it has some definite
lemony flavor/aromas?
Thanks!
Paul
S.T.E.P. - the St.Louis Park Emergency Food Shelf Program, just got three
new refrigerators. Their old ones (fully functioning!) are free for the
taking - first come, first serve. They are sitting outside their office at
6812 West Lake Street in St.Louis Park. (Nearest highway exit - Highway 7
and Wooddale Ave - just west of Hwy 100.) You have only to haul it away.
It might be thoughtful to give them a donation of cash or food while you're
picking up your free fridge.. Just a thought.
Ready, Set, GO!

Hi, Paul, My experience judging homebrew says to just enter it in 6B, and NOT mention anything, unless the hops are too much for the style guidelines. As a general rule of thumb, once a contestant has mentioned an ingredient, it's the judges' responsibility to look for and comment on that ingredient. So when you mention Citra hops, the judges now need to judge your beer not only on the 6B parameters, but also on whether or not the citra hops are noticeable, and then whether or not they add to the underlying style, or whether they marry well to the underlying style. If the judges cannot really discern Citra hops, then you'll likely be docked points for NOT having the mentioned characteristic. If it's too Citra-y for 6B, then go with the specialty category, wherein you must mention the Citra hops, and again, you'll need the beer to exhibit Citra in a pleasing way. That's my $0.02,John Personal. Professional.

Registration is now open for the 2013 Schnapp Hans Homebrew Competition at
www.http://schnapphanscup.com.
Judging will be at the Delafield Brewhaus in Delafield, WI (just east of
Milwaukee) on Saturday, October 12th. The competition is capped at 300
entries to maintain a 6-7 beers judged per flight for each judge. This
keeps the day running smooth and efficient so we have time to relax and
enjoy the food and beers available at Delafield Brewhaus. This also allows
us to do 3 sessions plus BOS in the day so you can earn 1.5 judging points.

Breweries springing up around Saint Paul are a powerful testament to our current fascination with the sudsy stuff. However, Minnesota’s capitol city has a long and rich history with beer, starting with the first brewery opened in Saint Paul in 1849. Today, Summit and other breweries share the city with thriving brew pubs, taprooms, and their historic predecessors—the imposing old Hamm’s and Schmidt Breweries, to name a few.
Start your Saturday night early and seek out a new go-to brew with Doug Hoverson, author of Land of Amber Waters. This meandering three hour tour of Saint Paul’s hoppy past and present features samples, conversation and hidden gems along the way.
This is being organized by the Minnesota History Center.
Mike, it sounds like you heard about it before it occurred.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel

It's a 'social' gathering at Summit. Cote said it's not a 'meeting'. I didn't go. I don't understand MHBA anymore. There's no planned meeting on their calendar.
