I seemed to have left the list at the CSPS hall at the swap meet.
If you signed up, please let me know. Or if someone picked up the list,
they could just pass the info onto me. So sorry.
Engineer, Gentleman, & Brewer,

Hi all,
We just returned from the Great American Beer Festival with a gold medal for
Czar Jack Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout! This beer will be released (on
cask) during our 4th anniversary celebration Sat. October 20.
I would like to thank you for your continued support. Without you wonderful
folks I would not be able to brew beer or attend the GABF.
Mike

----- End of forwarded message from Roger Deschner -----
Greetings from the office of the Vice President
As we enter the traditional fall brewing season I, and many others, will brew more beer. I was just wondering if there are any members or prospective members interested in attending, helping, or learning more about making beer from grain.
My brewery is a moderately high tech manual operation sporting some new "trick stuff" including:
1. Mini mash tower with large mini-needle burner for step mashing and mash out (over 5 feet tall).
2. 10 gallon hot liquor tank with separate warming burner
3. New sparge nozzle using cover of 15 gallon stock pot
4. Complete operation using 100% natural gas incorporating removable and safe supply system.
5. New (real old) tripple burner for heating water and boiling down final runoff.
6. Completely rearranged room for maximum floor space.
7. Redesigned low volume high tech moisture exhaust system.
8. Overlapping heating functions and well modified grains allow for 3.5 hour brew session!
OK, this is not a sale or an effort to solicit business. Think of it as an opportunity to share information, drink a beer, get a different perspective, and smell some grain, hops, and yeast. Please bring your pictures, beverages, and ideas to share.
What's in it for me? I get to brew beer and have someone to talk to. Heck, I would be just staring at the kettle.
What's in it for you? We plan the event and you don't need to spend the whole day at the CSPS hall.
What action is required? Send me an e-mail and I'll put you on the list. A week before I brew, I send the list an invite and a map. If you wish to attend, you show up.
When do I brew? Usually on week-ends but often on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. Starting time at 6 and knock off at 9:30 or 10:00.
Remember, home brewing is an evolution. Everyone can learn something. Every member has something unique to offer. Every time someone increases their knowledge they make better beer. All members have friends that may share interest in brewing.
Best of all, it's free!!! Who says there is no such thing as a free lunch?
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel
We will be having a Peoples Choice Holiday Homebrew contest at the MhBA
holiday Pot-Luck party.
CSPS Hall
Nov. 30th, Friday, 6-10pm.
There style of this homebrew contest is "Winter Warmer's/Holiday beers"
There is no entry fee. You simply need to be an MHBA member. More than one
entry per person will be allowed.
These homebrews would be similar to commercial "Winter Warmer" or
Holiday/Christmas beer examples
to include strong beers, fruit beers, spice beers, etc. Typically, they
don't fit into any specific BJCP category.
Since it's a peoples choice homebrew contest, we recommend entering a keg or
bring lots of bottles, so there's plenty to go around. Also, fancy labels,
interesting containers, and fun stories about your brew will help highlight
your entry. I hope this gives everyone time to brew!
Look for future e-mails regarding other fun stuff happening at the MhBA
Holiday Pot-Luck party!
Mike Moranz, President
Minnesota Home Brewers Association
Now that summer is officially over and we are all trying to get on with
our "normal" lives after the Sept 11th tragedies, we here at Great
Waters wish to invite everyone to our annual Oktoberfest Celebration.
This year the heated tent is back as well as our tasty Oktoberfest
beer. We will have live music starting Friday the 5th at 5:00 and going
until close. Saturday's festivities get underway at noon and run the
full day. There will be the traditional um pa pa music as well as music
by the Walleyes and the Beads later in the evening. All sorts of
Bavarian food will be available and who knows, Scott may even put on his
Leiderhosen, and ask you to polka!! So free up some time this weekend
and stop on down.
Scott is also coming up with some great new beers for your palate such
as a coffee stout, a bourbon brown on cask, as well as a St Pete on
cask. Stop on in and say hi!! And for you Viking Fans, Sundays game
will be on a big screen tv in the heated tent. What better way to watch
the game than with a fresh brewed Great Waters beer.
Sean
