Can anyone provide me with an analysis of water in the south metro
area? I moved to Northfield from Decorah, Iowa about 9 months ago, and
would like to tweak my brewing water.
I have a list of calculated adjustments needed to add to
Rochester/Decorah (they share the same aquifer) water to mimic the
waters of a number of great brewing cities of Europe.
Northfield/Lakeville/Burnsville/etc is served by a different
aquifer...I'd like to see just how different it is.
Thanks in advance.

When: Aug 26, Saturday, 10am-2pm
Who:
Emcee: Andrew W Rose
Volunteers:
myself
Dan Prokosch
Justin Chase
Doug Hoverson
Bob Mayer
BOS (confirmed):

We'll intially meet outside of the south gate (aka loop gate) off of Como. (Map: http://www.mnstatefair.org/pages/fairgrounds_map.html) We will meet at 9:30 sharp. (Give us a half hour to set-up and transit time.) If you LATE, you pay your own ticket to get in. It's everybodys responsibility on this short list to contact me to arrange to pick their ticket. Otherwise, I will have all 10 (ten) tickets with me Saturday morning. Unfortunatley, I only have TEN tickets and as you can tell we have 10 people. If anyelse has volunteered, I apologize. The State Fair will only do so many. If you want to purchase your own ticket, that's a different story...
Contact me off-list for other questions.

Sean Hewitt

Hello Everyone!
The Minnesota State Fair Homebrew Competition has been growing and it's now BIG. Not quite as big as Mash Out, but BIG. I know we're all waiting anxiously for BOS resutls this Saturday. Our BOS event is held at the CA/Education outdoor stage this Saturday from 10am - 2pm. Last Friday and Saturday, was our initial rounds of judging and it went very well overall. We had entries from as far north as Duluth and Virginia and as far south as Faribault and Rochester. We had 48 Minnesota cities represented overall. Here are some other very interesting statistics (Thanks, Al):
288 Beers entered total
94 brewers
48 Minnesota Cities represented
Mpls+St.Paul brewers=34
Outside Metro brewers=60
Avg 3.06 entries per brewer
Most entries per brewer: 18
Judges and volunteers: 44
Judging Sessions: 6
Flights=34
Judging Man-Hours: 255
Thanks everyone who participated for the Minnesota State Fair Homebrew Competition. Also, I would like to thank all the judges, stewards and volunteers. It wouldn't be much of a competition with all of you. Thanks to everyone.
Furthermore, and last but least, I would personally like to thank all of committee members as well. Everyone did an excellent job. Big thanks to the following:
Al Boyce, Database and Head Judge
Janis Sines, Office Chair
Greg Van De Mark, Contest Chair
Cory Dallas, Hospitality Chair
Michael Corrigan, Publicity Chair
Chris Smith, Head Steward
Dan Prokosch, Cellarmaster (who also lugged his freezer to site)
Also, those of you who placed in the competition, your name, the name of the entry, and your city will be on display at the Creative Activities Building for all twelve day of the State Fair so tell and of your friends and family. (It's in back and left hand side.) The BOS winner will be added after this Saturday's judging. (REMEMBER- all scoresheets and metals will be mailed AFTER the State Fair is over.)
Again thank you all.
Regards,
Sean Hewitt

Hello everyone,
First, I would like to thank the volunteers for the labeling and sorting for this past Saturday.
Jonathan Crist
Mike Behrendt
David & Jeannie Polzin
Wilbur Ince
We went though almost 600 bottles in a few hours. THANKS for helping out.
Also, I also need 3,4,5 volunteers for Saturday, August 26 from 10am - 2pm at the State Fair Grounds. Typically, we do a sweet brewing demo as well as handing out MHBA brochures, homebrew catalogues and talk to thousands of people about brewing. Meanwhile, in the background is the hustle and bustle of State Fair and our BOS event. This is a very large media event for homebrewing and awesome publicity for all of us and the hobby.
Robert G., is doing the the brewing demo.
Andrew R. is the emcee.
I also need volunteers to run the table hand out brochures and talk to people about brewing and homebrew. I need some volunteers to sign up quick because I need a “number” for volunteers besides myself and three BOS judges.

Subject: employee needed, can you help?
Vine Park Brewing Co is looking to hire a hard working, customer friendly
part-time employee. We thought you might know of someone who would fit in
with our operation as you've been here before. This is a great job for
someone in college looking for a part time position and flexible working
hours. We are sorry to see Matt leave but his college class schedule has
changed and he is no longer available during evenings.
This is a great opportunity to join a small operation and be a part of a
team. Our business has been growing strongly and we want someone who can
make a commitment to be here during that growth.
This is a part-time position with both significant interaction with
customers and time spent alone working on Brewery equipment cleanup. You
must be available weekday evenings and Saturday during the day. The
Brewery is open year round. This is generally not a good "second job" as
you will need to be here when the customer schedule is busy.
We are looking for a high energy person that is dependable, can organize
their work, and is quality focused. Duties would include assisting
customers with the beer bottling operation, working the cash register, and
cleaning wine & beer fermentors between uses. While we do have a lot of
fun, you will get your hands dirty and do repetitive work that requires
high quality so as to ensure standards of sanitation for the brewing
process. This is also a fairly physical job involving lifting, moving
materials, and bending over fermentors.
Vine Park Brewing Co is the Midwest's only Brew Your Own Beer & Wine on
Premise. We are a small operation with a staff of four so you will be an
integral part of the team. Hours will fluctuate as needed but range from
24 to 65 hours per two week period. Hourly wage is $8.50.
Applicants must be 18 or older and have knowledge of beer, beer brewing and
wine is a plus but not required. Vine Park Brewing Co is an equal
opportunity employer.

Dear Good Friend.
I am Mrs Joy Williams from Solomon Islands. I am married to Mr. Lobi Williams who worked with our Embassy in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the year 2004. We were married for eleven years without a child. He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days.
Before his death we were both born again Christian. Since his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of $8.5 Million with a Bank in Cote D lvoire.
Presently this money is still in the custody of the Bank in Cote D lvoire.Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next Eight months due to cancer problem. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a church, organization or good person that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.I want a church, organization or good person that will use this fund for orphanages, widows and other peoples that needs help and also propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained.
The Bible made us to understand that"Blessed is the hand that giveth".l took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband elatives are not Christians not even good at all because they are the one that responsible for the death of my husband in other to have all my late husband prperties and I don't want my husband's efforts to be used by those that conspired for his death.
This is why I am taking this decision,
I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord.Exodus 14 VS 14 says that "the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace". I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband's relatives around me always. I don't want them to know about this development and l know that With God all things are possible.
As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank in Cote d' lvoire. I will also issue a letter of authorization to the bank that will prove you the present beneficiary of this money. I also want you, church or the organization to always pray for me because the lord is my only shephard.
My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that Wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.
Contact me on the this email address and any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another good person, church, organization for this same purpose.
Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein. Hoping to receive your response immedaitely.
Thanks and Remain blessed in the Lord.
l remain yours sister in Christ.
Mrs. Joy Williams.

Special Categories for 2006
River City Roundup Bullshooter's Cup
The cup is awarded to the brewer who accumulates the most points in the
competition. Points will be awarded on the following basis: 1st - 5 pts.,
2nd -
3 pts, 3rd - 1 pt. The winner will receive a personalized, commemorative,
laser-etched mug.
Cornhusker Cup
In the land of tall corn (where the term "knee high by the 4th of July"
describes a crop that is right on schedule), the economic balance of a
successful
year often hinges on the crop of this simple plant of the grass family
Gramineae, "zea mays." Plentiful and cheap, this grain adjunct often gets
a bad
rap in brewing circles.
We're paying homage to this highly fermentable adjunct by once again
presenting this specialty class for the 2006 River City Roundup Fair and
Festival.
Entries in this categoy must contain AT LEAST 25% corn (brewer's choice).
Most common forms are flaked maize or corn grits. Corn must be detectable
on
the palate but in balance with the other fermentables. Beers entered in
the CAP
category are not eligible for entry in the Cornhusker Cup.
The winning beer will be judged on its own merit, particularly
drinkability.
The winning brewer will receive a personalized mug. Good luck!
"Maize" the force be with you!
High Plains Brewer of the Year
Again this year, the River City Roundup Homebrew Competition will be the
fifth leg of the _High Plains Brewer of the Year for 2006_

Beer Lovers,
The 3rd annual Muddy Pig Golf Snouting is set for Tuesday, August 29. Oak
Glen Golf Club in Stillwater will once again host this classic event with a
noon shotgun start. The Snouting is a scramble format and players of all
abilities (or no ability) are welcome. The price is $80 per person which
includes range balls, green fees, cart, dinner at The Muddy Pig following
the event and fabulous prizes. Registration forms are available at The
Muddy Pig.
The Golf Snouting is a charitable event with proceeds going to The
Children's Crisis Nurseries of Ramsey, Washington and Dakota counties. Hole
sponsorships are available for $250 which is a direct donation to the
charity. We are also seeking items for door prizes, anything from smaller
items like gift certificates to bigger prizes like a new car. Anything you
can do would be appreciated. Contact Thea or Mark at The Muddy Pig if you
can contribute. It's for the children.
Big news at The Happy Gnome. We are now serving brunch on the patio
Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 3. Great patio, great food, great beer
selection. And as a special bonus there is now live music on the patio on
Sundays from 1 to 4. I guess we know where you'll be this weekend.
Drink good beer,
Mark
