The BCJP exam will be held on Saturday, December 10th or Sunday, December 11th. I am not sure where the first class will be held at my house in Minneapolis. (I will send the address out closer to the first class.) The goals of the BJCP are to promote beer literacy, promote the appreciation of real beer, and recognizing tasting and evaluation skills. Over the course of the class, you will be learning to recognize the 98 styles of beer, mead, and cider as well as techniques to become a better brewer while preparing for the BJCP exam. This is a hands-on class, where each person will be responsible for presenting one of the topics to the rest of the class. There is no cost for the class, but you are required to be a current member of one of the local beer clubs and will be responsible for purchasing beer for the one of the class sessions. The exam fee is $50, which will be collected on the second class session. Class size is limited. Please email me to reserve you place in the class. MN State Fair Homebrew competition Deadline Aug 12!!

THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR HOMEBREW COMPETITION! If your email was in the CC: section - please pass this along to your homebrew friends!! STATE FAIR REGISTRATION ENDS AUG 12! The registration deadline for the MINNESOTA STATE FAIR HOMEBREW COMPETITION is coming up on Friday, August 12, 2005. This is a fun, local competition for MINNESOTA home brewers only, and tends to be a lot smaller than the Mash-Out, so your chances of winning are that much better. There are 15 medal categories, so 45 medals will be awarded, plus a "Best of Show" medal. You may enter in any BJCP Beer, Mead or Cider category, and you may enter one beer per BJCP sub-category. To enter your beers: http://www.mnbrewers.com/events/mnfair/ VOLUNTEER AT THE CONTEST! The competition is also looking for volunteers to help judge or steward at the judging on Saturday, August 20, 2005. EVERYONE is welcome - they will pair novice judges with more experienced judges. If you're thinking that you'd like to find out what beer judging is all about, or if you're thinking of taking the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) exam prep class this fall, come out and judge! You will get retro-credit for your judging once you take the BJCP test. If you're too shy to judge, you can "Steward", which involves helping the judges. Reminder: tomorrow night, Tuesday, 8/2 at 7pm we'll have our club run-off for Belgian/French beers for the AHA club-only competition. So far I have beers from Piatz, Boyce and Voosen. Anyone else?
