Beer keg registration signed into law
Published Mar 15, 2002
Beginning in August, all beer kegs sold in
Minnesota must be registered by liquor
stores in a new effort to keep alcohol away
from minors.
Gov. Jesse Ventura signed a bill Wednesday
Wednesday enacting the requirement, which
had been sought for years by Mothers
Against Drunk Driving and anti-youth-drinking
groups but blocked until recently by liquor
industry opposition.
The law will require liquor stores to file the
names and signatures of buyers of 7-gallon
and larger beer kegs and label them with
registration numbers, the retailer's name,
address and telephone number and the date
and time of purchase.
Police say they often break up "kegger"
parties of underage drinkers but cannot
trace who provided the beer. Keg tags will
discourage adults from the most common
means of furnishing alcohol to minors,
proponents say.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Steve Dehler,
R-St. Joseph, was approved 114 to 20 by
the House last year and 60 to 0 by the
Senate last Friday.

The BJCP Class and Club-Only Porter competition has been cancelled tonite
due to the storm.
Who's got porters? It needs to get sent in by Saturday to make it - any
ideas how to choose a winner? Anybody want to try it again tomorrow night
at my place? 7pm?

Hello,
This is Corey with All Saint's Brands. I have some info to pass along
that some of you might find interesting. We have a beer dinner coming up
at Barbette restaraunt in Uptown. address is 1600 W. Lake St.
#612-827-5710. Please make reservations ASAP because the dinner is this
Monday March 18 2002. The capacity is 50 people, the cost is between
$42-44 for a four to five course meal and a beer with most courses. The
cost is a relative bargin when you think about several beers and a
fantastic meal with a guest speaker. So I guess after giving you all the
info I should tell you who the guest is. Larry Bell Owner/founder of
Kalamazoo Brewing (Bell's) will be gracing us with his presence that
night for the first time. I am sure this will be quite the event so
please make your reservations quickly.
Thank-you
Corey Shovein

The time has come for another beer release. This Friday (3/15) from
5:00-6:00pm we will be releasing "Pot of Gold Potato Stout" to kick of the
St. Patrick's Weekend.
The Irish once brewed with potato because they were abundant and rich in
starch, which can be converted to fermentable sugar. This stout will be
served on nitrogen, making it very smooth and drinkable. It was a big hit
when released on cask last week.
So come on down Friday from 5-6pm and receive this new beer for just $.50
per pint. Also try the kitchen's special Corned beef and cabbage dinner
Cheers

I just saw this in the newsletter from Bacchus and Barleycorn.
George Fix
We have just learned of the sad news that George Fix died
yesterday. George was an American Homebrewers Association
Ninkasi Award winner, IBS Craft Brewers Conference and AHA
Conference speaker, magazine contributor, author of several
books on brewing, and one of the original Craft Beer
Enthusiasts in the United States. He had been battling
cancer for the last year. His dedication to beer and
brewing education and his wonderfully animated enthusiasm
will be dearly missed in the craft and homebrewing
community. Our sympathies go out to his family and friends.
