Calling all Beer Judges (or wanna-be Beer Judges!)
We're looking for a few good tasters.
The Upper Mississippi Mash-Out Beer, Mead and Cider Competition needs
you!
We will be doing two sessions of judging on Saturday, April 27 at 3pm
and 7pm, and another session on Sunday, April 28 at 1:30pm. The
location is Harwell's Steak House and Brewery in Shakopee. We have
need of BJCP-certified judges, but you are welcome to help if you
would like to learn how to judge - inexperienced judges will be
teamed with Certified judges.
This is the first year of this contest, cosponsored by the Minnesota
Home Brewers Association and the St.Paul Homebrew Club. Please help
us to make it a great success!

Hilarious video spoof on brewing commercials -- for those who
might have small kids around, this video is rated PG for bleeped
out cussing. :-)

Most of these came from a priceless but little-known source of beer
quotes, "Michael Jackson's Little Book of Beer", which also contains the
well-known such as:
"Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants to see us happy."
- Benjamin Franklin
to the less known such as:
Bartender: "Can I draw you a beer, Norm?"
Norm: "No. I know what they look like. Just pour me one."
- TV show Cheers
and the well-known but of forgotten source:
"You can never buy beer; you just rent it."
- ARCHIE BUNKER
and the very, very, very, very old:
"Beer he drank - seven goblets. His spirit was loosened. He became
hillarious. His heart was glad and his face shone."
- from "The Epic of Gilgamesh", 3,000 BC (5,000 years ago), the
world's oldest narrative tale, from Mesopotamia.
to finally, the way I feel this morning:
"I'd hate to be a teetotaler. Imagine getting up in the morning and
knowing that's as good as you're going to feel all day."
- Dean Martin
I keep the book next to my computer, for whenever I need a good beer
quote. It is also a valuable reference for getting the right wording and
source of many of the oft-misused beer quotes, since MJ's editors
researched it all.

The eleventh annual Chicago Cup Challenge sponsored by B.O.S.S. is this
Saturday, April 13, at 8:30 AM in Blue Island. We need more judges. Please
register with our judge coordinator, John Dalton - jdalton(a)enteract.com if
you can make it.
The contest is held at Jakes BBQ in Olde Blue Island, just west of Western
Ave. and on the south side of the canal in a turn of the century historic
building. Delicious BBQ lunch will be served.
We have fewer entries than last year so things should go smoothly.
The exact address is 13304 S. Olde Western Ave. Check the CBS April
Calendar for Metro directions.
Thanks.
