The Cloudy Town Brewers have arranged to have Elaine Davis, author of
Minnesota 13, Stearns County's 'Wet' Wild Prohibition Days as a guest
speaker for the event.
>From the book's website http://minnesota13.us/
"Minnesota 13" is a historical overview of the years from 1920-1933,
when moonshine production dominated the county while the 18th
Amendment was in effect. The skill of the local moonshiners --
combined with the perfect strain of corn -- produced some the best
whiskey in the United States. It was bootlegged and sold in
speakeasies from New York to San Francisco and competed successfully
with the best alcohol rumrunners could provide.

If memory serves, this year will be the FOURTH time the MHBA will attend a
Saint Paul Saints game? Club historian?
Let's see-there was the first year where we mercilessly teased Jonathan's
son . . .
The second year where the club president cross-dressed on the field . . .
The third year where the weather was once again lovely . . .
Hmmm . . . that's the problem with successful homebrew events-the details
get a little fuzzy.
And THAT'S the point!
Thursday, May 21st, the sinners (i.e., the MHBA) will once again tailgate at
the Saints game. This event grows larger every year, so don't delay!
Reserve your tickets TODAY! Reserved seats are $12 each, and the club pays
for the tailgating spot. E-mail me your requests, then send a check payable
to MHBA to John Longballa, 1211 Minnehaha Ave W, Saint Paul, 55104.
Unsold tickets will be returned to the Saints mid-April, so please step up
and claim your place in MHBA history NOW.
Don't miss the fourth (or fifth) annual Sinning with the Saints!
Thanks,
John

Growlers are every Thursday this month from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the brewery. Please use the side entrance. We still have a limited amount of our Rode Haring Flanders Red Ale and we will have 750 ml bottles of Winter Warlock 2008 available in a few weeks.

Hey everyone. Just want to remind you about the MHBA meeting this Sunday, February 8th from Noon - 3 pm at the Black Forest Inn.
(I know Sunday is not our usual day, but our schedule was getting full with Winterfest on Friday and Brew-haha judging on Saturday. Next Saturday is Valentine's Day, so that would not have worked either.)
Address: Black Forest Inn, 1 East 26th Street, Minneapolis MN 55404 (612) 872-0812. It is located off of Nicollet Avenue and they do have a parking lot.
I checked with the manager and she is excited to have us and knows that we will be bringing beers.
The Style of the Month for February is "Special/Best/Premium Bitter" - so if you have one brewed, bring it along and join the Style of the Month Club awards program. If you have a Belgian or French Ale that you did not bring in to January's Style of the Month, bring those in too. (Any other beers, ciders or meads you'd like to bring for evaluation would be welcome also!)
As some of you know, although I am planning on still being active with the BJCP class and with the club and have really enjoyed being president, I figured it was time to let someone else have a shot at the position. I personally nominate Chris Smith for the job. If anyone else is interested in a position, please let me know. Elections will be held during this meeting.
(The next meeting is March 14th at CSPS Hall. Start perfecting those chili recipes!)
See you Sunday!
