Please mark your calendars for the Minnesota Homebrewers Associations fifth
annual celebration of national Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day. Details
follow below. Grab that friend or rellie who has threatened to learn
homebrewing and bring him or her to Barley Johns on Saturday, November 1st,
10-2. He or she could win an entire homebrewing kit, courtesy of Brew &
Grow, Midwest Supplies, or Northern Brewer.
The cider pick-up will also happen during this meeting.
Homebrew is welcome at Barley Johns, but please remember to purchase
copious quantities of their excellent beers and food as well. Generous
tipping helps a lot.
I need a few folks to demo brew. The club will provide the equipment and
ingredients. You need to brew an extract batch for the assembled throngs,
explaining the process and having them stir the wort, add hops, etc. Then
you get to take home five gallons in your own carboy. Usually the beer then
is served at the club Christmas party, but that isnt a requirement. Please
let me know if youre willing to tackle this.
This is also a great opportunity to renew your membership before the year is
out.
Please feel free to distribute this notice far and wide.
Thanks much,
John Longballa

Sierra Nevada - Wet Hop Harvest Ale
Absolutely Soaking Wet Hops!
Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the
Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as
"wet" un-dried hops-the same day they are picked-to our brewery in Chico
where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their
oils and resins are still at their peak. 6.7% ABV

On the shelves right now!
Cantillon Iris
Very rare beer!
Iris is made in the style of lambic - fermented by wild yeasts and aged in
oak wine casks at the brewery - but with a couple of big differences. First,
it is made entirely from malted barley, whereas traditional lambic uses one
third unmalted wheat. In addition, the brewery has used fresh Hallertau hops
in the boil and for dry-hopping the Iris. (Traditional lambic calls for hops
that have been aged for several years, which impart virtually no hop flavor
to the finished product.)
Iris is a rare and unusual treat to thrill the connoisseur of traditional
Belgian beers - absolutely, utterly unique.

Needless to say, we don't have many of these....
Bells Brewing - Hell Hath No Fury!
American "Dubbel"
A brew that gives you either sympathy for the devil or the courage to face
him. Goes especially well with your favorite lost my girl/truck/dog/trailer
song.
7.7 % ABV this is a very small batch from Bells, it'll only be around for a
few weeks, it's a huge beer, malty and complex. Absolutely worth a try.
