Might be worth watching if you can stomach the inevitable "how many
beers do you taste in a day" question/joke.

Dear Rare Beer Club Members,
If you think that only one Michael Jackson is worthy of appearing on
late night TV, think again.
It is our understanding that Michael Jackson will be tasting, for the
first time, our April feature beer Avante Garde along with other
favorites that you will recognize.
The Conan O'Brien show usually airs around 12:30 AM on NBC, be sure to
check your local listings.
Enjoy the show

Let me know if you want an electric motor to power your grain mill.
I'll even through in a nice metal box enclosure if desired. The box has
a similar shape to a gas clothes dryer and more advanced brewers may be
able to use it to dry clothes and hops.
And don't ask about the time I got home from a business trip and found a
new washer/dryer pair in the house. The old ones worked fine before I left.
I hope to haul the box away tonight but if you want the motor, I can
pull it out. I may even have a pulley available.

Here is information about the Midwest Qualifying round for the AHA NHC
(National Homebrew Competition). It is being held in Urbandale, IA (near
Des Moines) on April 21-22, only about 4 hours south down I-35.
Last year we hosted this competition in St. Paul, and a lot of judges from
Iowa came up to help. Let's return the favor and help them judge this. Be
one of the judges who helps decides which beers go on to represent the
Midwest in the final round of the NHC in Florida in June!

Thanks to everyone who brought in their entries to the club meeting on
Saturday for the Midwest qualifiying round of the AHA Nationals! Rick
Oftel will be driving them down on April 14, and has said that he would
take late entries from MhBA members up until the evening of April 13 if
you drive them over to his house.
The AHA National Homebrew Competition is the BIGGEST homebrew competition
in the world! Entries to the Midwest qualifier will be judged by BJCP
judges from all over the Midwest. If you HAVEN'T entered before, they
have a special "NEW ENTRANT" category where you can enter any style you
like.
A common misconception at the meeting on Saturday was that you couldn't
enter an EXTRACT brew. WRONG-O! Every year, about 30-40% of the winners
at the FINALS are extract beers!
Finally, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries at the qualifying round pass on to
the finals in Florida in June, and get points for the MhBA for Homebrew
Club of the Year (as do 1st-3rd place at the finals round.) If you win
1st-3rd in Iowa, you'll need to send 3 more bottles per win to the
Nationals. NO ADDITIONAL ENTRY FEE, and you'll have time to RE-BREW if
you don't have 3 bottles left of your winning beers.
Test your brew against the best in the Midwest, and in the country, and
support your club at the same time! Enter your beers in the AHA National
Homebrew Competition!
Entry forms are here:
http://www.beertown.com/events/nhc/pdf/nhc06_entry_form.pdf
Rules are here: http://www.beertown.com/events/nhc/pdf/NHC06_rules.pdf
Cost is $8 per beer for non-AHA members, $12 for AHA members.
Drop your entries off at Rick and Dawn Oftel's house by Thursday evening,
4/13. Make sure they're READY TO GO, forms rubber-banded to the beers,
check attached to one of your entries.

Yes. Its that time to start thinking about Minnesota State Fair Homebrew
Competition. But thats not until August, its only April, Sean. True, but
the State fair competition has grown dramatically (tripled its entries) in
three years and the deadline starts in mid-July which only 3 short months
away. SO we need lead time for committee work, preparation, setting up,
getting volunteers and judges, publicity etc. This is where you come in. Im
looking for Committee head volunteers specifically. Head Steward?
Hospitality? Maybe Head Judge? The choice is yours. If you have a preference
on what you like to do, please let me know. Please reply to this email if
you have any talents youd be willing to offer for this event.
Regards,
Sean P. Hewitt

Just pissing in the tall weeds Steve!
Clubs aside, I believe anyone who enters a contest and wins a medal
deserves the respect of their fellow home-brewers. As an "old dog" who also
had no Mashness wins, I tip my mash-paddle to those who took home the bling
in St. Cloud!
- "Super Nicey-nice Sensitive PC Grampa" Al :-D (smiley)
PS -
It was good to see the 40 or so people at the CSPS Hall on Saturday having
"no fun" for Mike Behrendt's tasting of 46 different malt varieties. Good
job Mike, and thanks! Also thanks to Joel Stitzel, for organizing the
Style of the Month tasting of English Milds, and to Gera Exire LaTour for
organizing the free club transportation of entries to the Midwest AHA
Nationals Qualifying competition.
PPS -
We will be having some more "no fun" on April 11 at Gera Exire LaTour's
house, picking our club champion for the AHA Club-Only Extract Beer
competition. Anyone who has a beer made with at least 50% extract bring it
to Gera's house!
PPPS -
Finally, everybody mark your calendar to not "have fun" on at the "Friday
Before the Fhirst" happy hour at Wayne Theuer's house in Shakopee after
work on April 28. RSVP to happyhour(a)mnbrewers.com if you're planning on
coming.

And I was too. And I was trying to give you little crap about being a
so-called Old Dog (with no Mashness wins) warning other so-called Old Dogs.
Jeez, when did MHBA turn into the No Fun, Super Nicey Nice, Sensitve PC
