HELP!
There is an urgent need for hosts for the Mashout Beds for Judges. As in
the past we offered beds to out of town judges to help reduce their
travel costs. We still have several judges that have requested a bed and
only one host response.
If you can host a judge or two for any of the nights, please let me
know. The nights we need covered are primarily Friday and Saturday
nights but we have a need for a Thursday/Friday/Saturday for one couple.

The Mash-Out banquet promises to be one of the highlights of the brew

Just to be pedantic...
The old Wild Onion microbrewery has been closed for some years now. The
new place is called The Onion Pub and Brewery. Since there are several
burbs with Barrington in their names you'll want to look for Lake
Barrington when planning your trip to The Onion.
Other places to check out are Emmett's Tavern (West Dundee and Palatine)
and Alehouse (Downers Grove), Piece (Chicago near North/Dame/Milwaukee -
near Goose Island), Flossmoor Station (downtown Flossmoor at Metra
station - near 3 Floyds), Prarie Rock (Elgin & Schaumburg), Brass
(Barrington off I-90 @ Barrington Rd), America's Brewpub (Auroa near
Metra station), and Govnor's (Lake in the Hills).
A good, one-stop place to get to links for each pub's website is the
Illinois Craft Brewers Guild site at www.illinoisbeer.com. Also check
out this site later in the year for info on the 2006 (aka 4th annual)
Festival of Barrel-aged Beers.

PS - there's still a very few tickets left for the Beer Banquet on January
21st at the Mash-Out awards ceremony. If you missed getting a ticket for
Winterfest - you WON'T want to miss THIS!!!
The deadline for making your reservations for the Upper Mississippi Mash-Out
Beer Dinner is this Friday, Jan 6.
THERE ARE ONLY A FEW SEATS LEFT!! Reserve your spot TODAY at:

HERE is the amazing menu, prepared by Chef Manfred Krug:
A Texas Chili Bar Beef and Pork Chili with all the fixings, including Lime
Wedges, Shredded Cheese, Diced Peppers, Onions, Jalapenos, and a nice basket
of Beer and Cheese Corn Muffins
Smoked Carolina Pork Butt with Beer Mop Hickory Smoked Pork cooked until it
falls off the bone, mopped with a Vinegar and Beer style mop, served over
Beer Herb dinner rolls (like a mini shredded Pork sandwich for those who
chose to make it so)
We would offer a Slaw, probably creamy although a traditional Carolina Slaw
is more vinegary, than we would have a few other "Midwestern-Style"
Bar-b-que sauces available at the table as well.
Traditional Chicken Mole Poblano Braised Chicken in a dark/spicy ale or beer
with onions, peppers, and tomatoes, finished with bitter sweet chocolate,
and peanut butter. Garnished with toasted pumpkin seeds,
This Chicken Mole would set up well next to some Mexi-style Rice prepared
Pilaf style.
Chipotle Marinated Beef Pot Roast with Mexican Vegetables, including Choyte
Squash, Potatoes, Carrots and Onions, all stew cut. Served with Corn and/or
Flour Tortillas
Dessert Table: Pecan Diamonds, Chocolate Decadence, Beer Cheese Cake, and a
Bread Pudding with either a beer sauce, or beer in the custard.
All dishes would be made with beer.
The Mash-Out dinner will be held on on January 21 at 6pm. RESERVE YOUR SEAT
AT THE TABLE NOW!!
