Here's a memo from the Ale Riders of Rapid City, SD. Anybody need a free

The Midwest Region Preliminaries for the AHA National Homebrew competition
is coming up quickly -
WE NEED MINNESOTA'S HELP!
http://www.mnbrewers.com/events/nhc/
THIS IS YOUR REGION!
We need Judges, Stewards and volunteers from all nine states (North
Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa,
Missouri, and Wisconsin) to make it happen! So far, we have 2 from KS, 2
from MO, 3 from ND, 1 from WI and 28 from MN (none from NE, SD, IA or OK).
WE NEED MORE JUDGES!
We have about 36 volunteers right now, but 70 would make things go really
smoothly. We need your help! Please talk to your club members, homebrew
friends and fellow judges, and convince them to help us with the contest.
We still have 2 weeks, so we could make our goal. We would LIKE to have
people signed up by April 22, but we will accept judges at the door if
they won't know until that late whether they can help or not. Email Steve
Piatz at piatz(a)cray.com if you have recruited someone but they are shy to
register online.
http://www.mnbrewers.com/events/nhc/
SIGN UP FOR MORE SESSIONS
If you have only signed up for 1 or 2 sessions - THANK YOU! If you could
help us out with more, or all of them, contact Steve Piatz at
piatz(a)cray.com . He will add them to your registration in the database
(no need to sign up again.) Consider taking Friday the 29th off from work
to help us out!
HOTEL BLOCK EXPIRES TOMORROW!
If you need a hotel room, the room block expires TOMORROW, APRIL 15 at the
Super 8 on Prior Avenue (see below). Call today or tomorrow to reserve
your room, if you want to take advantage of the "official" hotel of the
competition. That's probably where all your friends will be!
AWARDS BANQUET RESERVATIONS NEEDED
Rick Oftel is cooking up something wonderful for the Awards Banquet on
Saturday night after judging. The cost will be less than $10, and we will
collect at the event, but we need to know how many we're cooking for. If
you could email Curt Stock with your intentions whether you intend to join
us or not, that would help a lot! Curt's email is:
curtis.stock(a)state.mn.us
Thanks again!

You know that this sounds interesting. If anyone has cable and would be
willing to tape the show, I would gladly try to duplicate some of it.
I don't think we have the facilities to make good fish and chips but the
Guinness Ice Cream with Dark Chocolate Honey Sauce sounds like a
exceptional creation. The only thing missing is a double chocolate
brownie under the ice cream! I wonder if they have a soft serve ice
cream machine at the hall? Hmmmmmmm.......

I don't think the wiring is correct in my setup to tape from cable, but the
Emeril show does post their recipes on their website once the show airs:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_em
Once the show airs, go to the "RECENT EPISODES" section in the middle of
the page, and click on the show for which you want to see the recipes.

PS - I was just kidding about using Emeril's recipe at the contest Rick,
but I know how you rise to a challenge! ;-D

CONGRATULATIONS to Mike Behrendt, whose Ordinary Bitter won the blue
ribbon in the MhBA club championship for Extract Beers last night. Mike's
beer will go on to represent the MhBA in the AHA National Club-Only
competition.
Also, thanks to the other brewers who brought beers - Jim Voosen, Steve
Piatz, Paul Dienhart and Al Boyce.
The next Club-Only competition is Belgian and French Ales, BJCP Category
16. The MhBA will pick our club champion for that beer on Tuesday, Aug 2.
Let's start brewing!

Folks--
I know that there's something you've been wanting to say to the public concerning brewing and beer, and I'm asking, nay, begging you to come forward. The Minnesota Home Brewers Association is serious about publishing brewing and beer news each month, whether in hard copy or electronically, and we need contributions--from you!
Please don't think that your news is too basic, too boring, or too well-known; someone will be interested in what you have to say! If each member wrote one article of one hundred words each year, we would fill the Boiler each and every time!
Perhaps you've got equipment to sell. Maybe you're dying to review a great beer bar. It could be that you just want to sound off about passing legislation that would allow five-gallon kegs to be filled at brewpubs. Whatever you have to say, we want it!
Please send your contributions to John Longballa at jlongb(a)ties2.net. I will gently edit them and send them to the Boilermaker, Al Boyce, who will lay them out and publish them. Then sit back, enjoy seeing your name in print, and await the kudos that roll in from folks who were truly interested in reading what you wrote.
It's that simple, so please don't delay--operators are standing by, awaiting your submissions.
Thanks much,
John
The Minnesota Home Brewers Association will have our club run-off for the
AHA National Club-Only competion for EXTRACT BEERS tomorrow night at my
place. If you have a beer made with at least 50% extract, bring it over at
7pm to help select our champion!

We are currently in FIRST PLACE in the Club of the Year running - this is
the LAST Club-Only for which we can earn points. If you have an
extract-based beer that turned out Fantastic, bring a bottle over!

Is anybody interested in going to the Great Taste of the Midwest in
Madison, WI on August 13, 2005? About 100 different brewers, with
approximately 500 beers. $30 admission, then taste all you want! It's in
a beautiful park in Madison, there's usually music playing, and tasty
treats of different kinds to buy once you're in.
There is a possibility to buy a block of tickets for our club, but it must
be at least 20 tickets (they may be moving it to 25 soon!)
The check must be sent on May 1st to have a chance in h*ll to get the
tickets. If anybody is interested, send me an email. If we get 25 SOLID
names by next Friday, I'll organize it. Otherwise, you're on your own.
