I feel like a luddite trying to open this thing so that I can actually read it. Can
someone tell me how that can be done running Win XP and the basic MS Office suite?
Opening with Word or Notepad gives me a lot of content but also a lot of mess.

Thanks to all of the donations and comps, we are able to hold the price per
gallon about $2.00. Remember, bring your sanitized container, yeast culture,
and good weather. See you all on May 3rd.

notice someone on the list below, please forward a copy.
Let me know if we need to juggle the schedule. A few master brewers have
afternoon committments. As always, times and schedules are relative and
tentative. Recipes will be printed at the specific stations.

New subject: Big Brew
Don't feel bad Don, I had no luck either. For "html", it has a file suffix
of ".dat".
None of my browsers could read it either. And named "winmail" makes me think
it is another proprietary format of Microsoft - which they can't read either.

I'm not an expert on any software product BUT I do play one at times.
DON
If you have MS Outlook as part of the MS package, try going to
Tools> Options> Preferences and selecting the e-mail options button.
In the message handling settings the last check box (Read all standard
mail in plain test) should not be checked.
MARK - you may have a similar problem. Rick's message shows on my
computer as Rich Text which would also support the Excel table
formatting.

The winmail.dat file that was attached looks like an Excel file, but
my Excel couldn't open it properly.
How about converting to PDF before sending? Try CutePDF:

Much higher chance that others can read it.
Or better yet, how about Google docs: http://docs.google.com You
should be able to copy paste from Excel in to a Google doc and send
around the link to the document. (then others can even collaborate by
editing or leaving comments).
