How about converting to PDF before sending? Try CutePDF: http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp
Much higher chance that others can read it.

Or better yet, how about Google docs: http://docs.google.com You
should be able to copy paste from Excel in to a Google doc and send
around the link to the document. (then others can even collaborate by
editing or leaving comments).
