New subject: [mnbrewers] Surly Abrasive recipe
I made one this year based off Surlys info on the beer from their website, they list
grains and hops. It was spot on for this years beer, however I like last years Abrasive
better and that is what I was shooting for but it turned out to be, in my opinion, an
exact clone for this year’s batch. When we did a side-by-side comparison the only real
difference was theirs was cloudier and mine had more hop aroma probably because it was
fresher.
The recipe is at home. I will dig it up tonight if I remember and send it out.

1.081 OG / 1.015 FG
7.5 SRM
8.8% ABV
118-122 ish IBUs
55% Muntons Extra Light DME (Half as a Late Addition)
25% Simpsons Golden Promise (Mash @ 149 for 60 min)
10% Corn Sugar (Late Addition)
5% Simpsons Golden Naked Oats (Mash @ 149 for 60 min)
5% Briess Crystal 20L (Mash @ 149 for 60 min)
35-40 IBUs from Warrior pellets @ 60 min
30-40 IBUs from Warrior pellets @ 25 min
20-25 IBUs from Citra pellets @ 15 min
15-20 IBUs from Citra pellets @ 10 min
Post-Boil Aroma Steep with 0.40 oz. Citra pellets per gallon of beer @ 30
min

New subject: [mnbrewers] Surly Abrasive recipe
Attached is my version of the Surly Abrasive Clone. I would say is was an exact clone of
the 2012 Abrasive. It is set up for 10 gallons if you want me to scale it to 5 gallons or
something else let me know. For this style of beer I usually add 4 gallons of distilled
water to my mash based off my tap water profile so adjust your water profile accordingly,
it really does make a difference. FYI, next time I make it I will mash around 150-152
instead of 156 to see what happens, was a little too sweet for me. Enjoy Justin
