I also saw grapes for sale at Von Klopps - $0.75/lbs. They also are
providing equipment to press and de-stem the grapes. Frontenac and
Sevel.

As for the non-beer competition, the state fair wants someone to sponsor
the event, which means having a presence at the fair while they are
open. That usually killed it for MhBA. A 12 day commitment (beyond the
actual judging) has been more than we were interested in. Maybe someday.
BTW, did you notice I was tied for 2nd runner up for the sweepstakes winner
in wine. 8^)
Sparkling Mead - 1st place
Merlot - 2nd place
Apple Cider - 4th place
and for some reason the Melomel did not place. Bummer.

While I was at the State Fair I noticed a small sign
near the wine
display. Len Jax is selling Minnesota grown Frontenac grapes for $1.00 a
pound. Apparently this year's crop is quite good and capable of making
some above average wine. (something like a Merlot) If you buy, tell them
Tom Matell sent you.
Why doesn't the MHBA get some beer judging at the State Fair?
