Tom, I hadn't heard that Obama didn't actually make any beer. That's too bad. Thanks for the update. John Personal. Professional.

John,
Is this membership for President Obama or whoever the current President is? I'm not being political in any way and this may be a good jester but just to let you know that it was reported that President Obama only purchased the beer brewing equipment. As far as my research can verify or if anyone can correct me President Obama has not participated in any brewing sessions or had any input on the recipes. It is the White House chefs and cooking staff that are making the beer, not President Obama. And I do hope that who ever the next president is will continue the white house beer brewing tradition. I just wanted to make you aware of this and that I'm also fine with giving President Obama a honorary membership and inviting him to a meeting. I would imagine that the secret service would have to taste each different home brew before the President to make sure it's not poisoned...

Thanks, Tom

Dipak, Great idea (as was the one that Al (?) floated a few weeks back--the one about giving the President an honorary club membership)! I don't know that you need a second. As with most things in the MHBA, just spearhead the idea if you get a little buy-in. I doubt that Obama will meet with us, but if he did, that would be pretty cool! Not too many homebrew clubs can say that they entertained a President. Unless there is opposition to the idea, then please go ahead and see what it takes to invite the President to a meeting (you could say that there's going to be a meeting the day that he's in MN). As I mentioned, when someone in the club proposes an idea, the leadership says, "Great!--Make it so and let us know what assistance you need." Thanks,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Summit to open Tap Room at its St. Paul brewery
ST. PAUL, Minn. – (Sept. 19, 2012) – Summit Brewing Company will start Tap Room hours at its brewery “Ratskeller” on Fridays from 3-8 p.m., beginning Sept. 28. The Tap Room opening will feature a half-barrel of Export Stout from the pilot brewery and music from Hotpants DJs. Barrio will be selling tacos on Summit’s patio.
“As St. Paul’s first tap room, we’re excited to continue our focus on the community and bring more people into the brewery to experience what Summit is all about,” said Mark Stutrud, Summit’s founder. “Tap rooms are a step in the right direction for Minnesota breweries; it’s a return to tradition and historical experiences.”
All of Summit’s current beers will be available in the Tap Room as well as cask-conditioned and specialty beers made with the brewery’s pilot system. The brewery’s patio space above the Mississippi bluffs will be open during public Tap Room hours, weather permitting. Food trucks will be parked in the Summit lot and will be announced weekly via Summit’s website and social media accounts. Summit will also add tours at 1 p.m. on Fridays, which will begin on a date to be announced later.
The Ratskeller space is currently offered twice per week to community and nonprofit groups, and by limiting the Tap Room hours to Fridays, Summit will continue that community-focused culture.
For more information as the taproom opening approaches, please visit www.summitbrewing.com<http://www.summitbrewing.com/>.

The September Minnesota Home Brewers Assoc. club meeting is at Fulton Brewery tonight (Monday, September 17th) at 6:30 pm. The owners will be present to give us a tour and talk about the brewery. Because this is considered a special event, we are allowed to bring in home brew. (I have a soft spot for the Fulton guys, since they took my BJCP exam prep many years ago and I am very glad that they are able to open the brewery for us.)
The AHA Club Only style for September/October is Light Hybrid Beers. Please bring your BJCP Category 6: Cream Ales, Blonde Ales, Kolsch, and American Wheat/Rye. Kurt Smelser will be working with other club members to select our club's representative.
Since this is dinner time, I have arranged for Jellybean & Julia's food truck to be outside. The truck is owned by club members Cory and Koli Swap. I have had them cater and their pulled pork is excellent, so I am very excited that they are going to be here. I can't wait to try their other items! More info and to check out their fun menu: http://www.jellybeanandjulias.com/ (Please bring cash.)
