Subject: NHC 2012 Seattle judges save the date
Date: Thu, 12 Jan 2012 07:36:12 -0800
Hello,
I am the judge organizer for next years National Homebrew Competition in
Seattle, WA. Please save the date 6/21/12, we are going to need every
national and higher ranked judge to help
judge the event.
Judging is going to be held in one day, 2 sessions, 90 flights with
48 flights in the AM alone! We will need 144 judges, clearly the
biggest turnout ever in the Northwest. 48 of these judges need to be
National and higher to act as head judges for each flight. Judging
assignments will be issued early so you have time to drink all the beers
on the BJCP recommended drinking list. The goal is to fill all 144
judge seat with highly ranked BJCP ranked judges.
Please let me know if you are available to judge and if you know of
any judges that you respect their judging ability. We will also be
looking for 33 Stewards, so any names of experienced stewards would be
appreciated.
Can you judge in Seattle?

Subject: Re: [sphbc] 2012 UMMO entry sort - this coming Saturday!
Ahoy...
Just a final notice... we're still planning on sorting UMMO entries at the Northern Brewer Warehouse in Roseville, this coming Saturday (the 14th) at 10am.
What does all this entail? Putting labels on bottles and sorting said bottles into their appropriate boxen... easy!
And as always, we could use extra 24-pack beer cases and / or 6-pack holders... so let me know if you have some to offer, or bring them to the sort!
If you want to volunteer, or have any questions, please send me an email DIRECTLY. If we have enough people, the sort should not take too long, even with 2000 bottles of beer!
Also, if you happen to be a part of any of the other clubs in the area, feel free to forward this email on to them.
Thanks, cheers!
-Eric

There are still openings for judges and stewards, but don't expect to be
able to slide in at the very last moment.
Sign up now if you want to help, because we have had to turn people away in
the past 2 years:
http://www.mashout.org/content/registration.html
Less than 10% of the entry slots for the Upper Mississippi Mash-Out remain
open. The last week is crazy. Enter now and volunteer or run the risk of
getting left out.
More info: http://www.mashout.org
Please forward this to other club lists.
The KCBM is a fun competition with good people in Kansas City. They were one of the competitions we used as a model when we started the Upper Mississippi Mash-Out. Sign up to judge if you can!
As far as entering beers there goes, it is a qualifier for both the High Plains Brewer of the Year award, as well as the Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing.

Subject: Judge Request for Midwinter Homebrew Competition
The Beer Barons of Milwaukee are looking for volunteers (judges and stewards) for the Midwinter Homebrew Competition the weekend of February 17th and 18th. We are expecting 600-700 entries, so there is plenty of need for help. Our mantra for the competition is to create a high quality competition by providing a beer geek weekend in Milwaukee to ensure we have plenty of quality judges. See below info for info about what we have planned. Please visit the competition website to register and more info about the competition: www.midwinterhbc.beerbarons.org.
Judging will be on Friday, February 17th and Saturday, February 18th. There will be 4 sessions on Friday and 3 sessions plus the BOS on Saturday.
Location: Once again the judging will be located upstairs at the Milwaukee Ale House (downtown Milwaukee location), but in a larger area.
Meals: Friday lunch and dinner as well as Saturday lunch will be provided to volunteers from the session prior to the meal.
Brewery Tour: There is a private brewery tour planned at the Milwaukee Brewing Co. for anyone who volunteers for the 3 early sessions on Friday.
Volunteers reception: There will be a private volunteers reception in the basement bar of the Milwaukee Ale House after the last judging session on Friday for volunteers only. There will be munchies and beer provided (1/4 barrel of barrel aged Baltic porter from MKE Brewing Co. and two 1/6th barrels of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale).
Speakers: There will be presentations during the lunch breaks on both Friday and Saturday. Details being finalized but it as of now we are planning to have Curt Stock discuss judging meads with one or two sample meads to practice judging during the Friday lunch break. The Saturday lunch break will consist be a panel of brewmasters from local Milwaukee microbreweries. Its looking very likely we will have someone from a cooperage to talk about wood and wood barrels used for brewing during the volunteers reception Friday evening.
Awards Ceremony: There will be an awards ceremony open to the public in the main bar of the Milwaukee Ale House at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Score sheets and medals will be available there once all winners are announced.
Hotels: A discounted block of rooms will be reserved for volunteers (cost under $75 per night).
Shuttle buses: There will be shuttle busses for transportation between hotel and judging location and for all events not at Milwuakee Ale House. Still being worked on is a shuttle for a bar tour Saturday night after the awards ceremony.
Glasses: We will also be providing each volunteer a commemorative Guiness pub glass with the Midwinter Homebrew Competition logo and glass sponsors logo.
The Midwinter Beer Festival is Sunday, February 19th. A limited number of discounted tickets (non-transferable) are available for the volunteers. Please contact us to reserve tickets at: midwinterhbc(a)beerbarons.org.
Please pass this on to anyone else who may be interested. Any questions that arent answered in this email or on our website (www.midwinterhbc.beerbarons.org) can be sent to: midwinterhbc(a)beerbarons.org.
