Subject: BABBLE Leap Beer Judging and Stewarding
Date: Sun, 29 Jan 2012 14:19:19 -0600
BABBLE is please to announce this years BABBLE Leap
Beer homebrew competetion. Since 2004, BABBLE has been holding this event
(Leap Beer during leap years and Brew Off in non leap years). Leap Beer is
also part of the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year circuit. Over the years the
competetion has grown from a small event arounf 100 entries to a significant
event with over 350 entries. We receive entries from around the country
and have had internaltional entries. In large part, the growth can be
attributed to the volunteers like you who help the competetion run and provide
quality feedback to the participants. Once again we are expecting entries
in the 350-400 range and can use you help.
The event will be held on the final Saturday of
February, the 25th. Judging will take place at the Ram Restaurant and
Brewery in Wheeling, IL. Judging will start at 9:00 am. Volunteers
should show up by 8:30 to get checked in.
Those interested in volunteering can contact the
Leap Beer committee at:
brewoff(a)babblehomebrewers.com
For those interested in entering, rules and entry
forms can be found on our website at:
http://www.babblehomebrewers.com/index.php/events
Again, thank you to thoses who helped us out in the
past. We hope you can help out again this year. For those
considering to volunteer for the first time, thank you. We feel very
fortunate to have access to so many excellent judges. I know that the
entrants appreciate your feedback.
Cheers,
Dan

We're into the last week of registration for entries into the Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha, Duluth's Biggest and Best homebrew competition. The Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha is the second stop on the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year circuit, for those looking to gain homebrewing immortality.
You can enter online at http://www.northernalestars.org/greatnorthernbrewhaha.html . Entries can be dropped off at BOTH Northern Brewer locations in the Twin Cities (entries must be dropped-off no later than January 28th) and Northern Brewer in Milwaukee (entries must be dropped-off no later than January25th). Attendees of the Upper Mississippi Mash-Out this weekend can bring their entries to the Mash-Out for drop-off (January 27 - 28 www.mashout.org ).
You can also register to judge and steward at the web site and register for the Gala Awards Banquet. Dave Hoops, Brewmaster for Fitgers Brewhouse, will be our guest speaker and discuss wood aging beer.
Cheers!
Just saw this on the internet about the Prairie Ale House in Eden Prairie -
Can't say it's not a big surprise - And another one bites the dust:
Sorry everyone. The Prairie Ale House is closed indefinitely. The restaurant
is going to be remodeled and rebranded over the next couple months.

I'm in!

Entry registration for the coolest homebrew competition (yes, pun intended) is now open. That's right, The Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha , the second stop on the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year circuit hosted by the Northern Ale Stars of Duluth MN, is now accepting entry registration at http://www.northernalestars. org/greatnorthernbrewhaha.html .
Here's just a small sampling of the thousands of reasons to enter and/or attend the Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha:
·The brewer of the Best of Show winning beer will get to brew their creation at the Thirsty Pagan Brewery in Superior WI http://www. thirstypaganbrewing.com/·Millions of dollars in great prizes.·Special "Snow
Blower" category - A beer you would like to have after a hard day of blowing snow (interpret that any way you'd like).· Two drop-off locations in the Twin Cities. Northern Brewer (St. Paul location only) and the Upper Mississippi Mash-Out competition (January 27th & 28th).·Saturday evening guest speaker will be Dave Hoops, Brewmaster at Fitgers Brewhouse, who will be discussing Wood Aging Beer (I'm sure there will be samples!).·Best Name Award – A "People's Choice" vote by all attendees will anoint the entry with the best name
with a special award.
The entry period will run through January 30th. The Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha will be held February 10th & 11th at the Holiday Inn Hotel and
Suites in Duluth, MN. For more information than you would care to read, as well as to register entries or to volunteer to judge or steward, surf on over to http://www.northernalestars. org/greatnorthernbrewhaha.html .
The Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in Duluth is offering rooms at the low price of $79 per night to attendees of the Brew-Ha-Ha. Call 218-722-1202 and ask for the Northern Ale Stars rate.
Cheers!

Cory,
MHBA members get 10% off NB, Midwest, StillH2O in Stillwater and Brew n' Grow in Blaine, as well as Minneapolis Oxygen for CO2. If you joined by PayPal, print off your confirmation and use it until the card shows up. The clerks at these places want to be helpful, if you can give them any reason to go along. But we all know there are jerks who try to say they belong to the club when they're too cheap to buy a membership. We really appreciate it when clerks ask to see a current card.
I was treasurer for four years until Neil took over. Can I remind all MHBA members (not directed at you, Cory) that this is a volunteer organization, nobody is getting paid, everybody is trying to work a job and be part of a family as well as volunteer for the club, so try to have a little patience about the service.
Paul

The creator of this site sent this link to me. Seems like an interesting idea so I thought I'd send it around.
No entries for the Metro area yet but I suppose that could change.
