Hey everyone,
Sorry for the late notice. The October MHBA meeting will be held at the Black Forest Inn on Saturday, October 15th from noon-3pm.
1 East 26th Street
Minneapolis, MN 55404
It is on the corner of 26th and Nicollet Avenue. (There is parking available in their lot on Nicollet.)http://www.blackforestinnmpls.com/
They have excellent food and beer and have always been very nice to us. In fact, the manager said to make sure to have people bring some home brewed beers. :)
If you would like to do a presentation on a brewing topic, please let me know.
Although too late to select at the meeting, since they are due on October 15th, the next AHA Club Only is Category 23 - Specialty/Experimental/Historic Beers. If anyone has something they would like to enter, let me know. (Any Byggvir entries?)
I am going to get club member score sheets (and hopefully prizes/medals!) from Eric Wentling from this past weekend's Byggvir's contest at the Renaissance Festival. If you are not a usual meeting attendee, send me an email, so I can get your stuff for you to hand out at the meeting.
Also, put on your calenders: the November MHBA meeting is Learn to Home Brew on Saturday, November 5th at Barley John's from 10 am to 3 pm. This is an excellent meeting to bring your friends that want to learn more about the art and science of brewing. There will be demos (let me know if you would like to do an extract demo), drawings for prizes for the newbies, and special this event, Barley John's will be offering a brunch (more details coming soon, but it should be yummy).
As always, drop me an email if you have any questions.

project. I would be willing to trade beer / cash for a an hour or two of
assistance.
thanks,

I have a few seats left for the BJCP Exam Prep class that starts on Thursday, September 22nd at 6:30 pm. The classes will be every Thursday from 6:30 pm and going until 10:30 pm (or later) through December for 12 weeks. We will be covering the material that is in the exam, including: the various styles of beer, how to fill out judging sheets, brewing ingredients, brewing techniques, brewing history, etc. A large portion of this class involves sampling various beers, so a designated driver to pick you up after class is recommended. This class requires a lot of participation and each person in the class will be required to give a presentation on a selected topic. You will also be required to bring selected beers to certain classes. For most people this runs about $125+ over the 12 weeks. The focus of this class is to prepare people for the 3-hour Beer Judging Certification Program exam (scheduled for December 11th) and to teach them how to become beer judges. Although other topics are covered, this is really the purpose for the class. If you feel that you are going to miss more than 3 classes or you are not interested in taking the BJCP exam (or in judging beers), this is not the class for you. There are only 12 seats available for any BJCP exam. First priority is given to people who are taking this class, so it is very important that you are not taking a seat if you do not want to take the exam. You need to be a current member of the Minnesota Home Brewers Association to take this class. If you are not a current member, you can not take the class at this time, but you can sign up for membership at mnbrewers.com, and I will put you back on the waiting list for a later class. If more people are interested in the class than seats available, priority will be given to those who have helped out at previous contests. If you are still interested and would like a spot in the class send me an email. You will need to send a non-refundable check made out Gera Exire LaTour for $80 before the class starts. (This includes your $50 exam fee and the minimal fee for the class.)
