Dear Minnesota Homebrew Community -
I need your help! If you've not registered to judge or steward and have some availability on Friday 8/19 or Saturday 8/20 PLEASE DO! At this point we have 1/3 more entries than last year (625 to be exact) and not enough volunteers to make the competition go.
I understand that it is one of the last weekends of the summer, but many of you have entries in the competition. Please do what you can to help us out! Sign-up at www.mashout.org/mnstatefair
Gratefully,

2 day warning! Entry and Volunteer Registration for the 2011 MN State Fair Homebrew Closes on Friday!
Please be sure to get your entries submitted into the registration database and delivered to a drop-off location by the close of business on Friday.
Also, still looking for competition volunteers - judges and stewards! We are on pace to meet or beat last years entry count of 500 and will need lots of volunteers to judge that many entries. Please join us - even if only for one session. It is a fun competition (and as added incentive - all volunteers receive a State Fair admission ticket)!

Want a FREE State Fair admission ticket? Volunteer for judging or stewarding at the MN State Fair Homebrew Competition!
I know summer is winding down and everyone's trying to fit in one more trip to the lake, but it's important to support this competition. If you are a credentialed BJCP judge, please show up on one or both judging days.
If you WANT TO BECOME a BJCP judge - this is a great way to begin your training! The contest management will pair you with a more experienced judge if you want to jump in with both feet. Otherwise, stewarding is a painless way to start learning about beer without worrying about the pesky judging portion.
LET'S MAKE TURNOUT FOR THIS EVENT AMAZING!

Subject: Brewing job opening
High volume brewpub seeks efficient and quality-focused Assistant
Brewer
Fitger's Brewhouse, Duluth
Our exciting and expanding company seeks a motivated brewer who wants to
be a part of a growing organization. The successful candidate has a strong
work ethic, positive attitude and a huge passion for beer. Fitger's
Brewhouse brewers take a serious responsibility for each aspect
of a beer's production; from the hot side of the brewery, to the cellar, and the
eventual delivery into a customer's glass.
Fitger's Brewhouse opened in 1995 and has since become Minnesota's most
producing brewpub. Driven by quality, last year the brewery produced 110
recipes and sold nearly 3,000 barrels in its two restaurants, a night club,
catered concerts and festivals and in growlers from the brewery. This October a
third restaurant and alehouse will be opened in downtown Duluth, which will
increase the breweries production needs.
Our brewers take great pride in the beer they produce and the
community it serves. In our brewery, attention to detail is tantamount
to creating new and exciting brews. You must have the ability to strictly
follow recipes and a standard
operating procedure.
Our brewhouse is a hands on operation and can be physically taxing. It
requires your ability to bend, twist, kneel, climb stairs, stand,
shovel hot grain, lift 55+ pounds repeatedly, work with hot and cold
liquids, lift and roll full kegs and handle oak
barrels.
Your work schedule may vary from week to week with a mix of
weekdays, weekends, early mornings and
evenings.
Duties include but are not limited to:
raw material handling, brewhouse operations, vessel CIP, keg
filling and hauling, yeast harvesting, cellar work, monitoring
fermentation (gravity, pH,) keg washing and filling, growler washing,
and filling, festival work as a brand ambassador, keeping immaculate
records, and lots of cleaning!
REQUIREMENTS: prior brewing experience, formal
brewing education is advantageous but not required, and a desire to
learn and grow with our company.
We offer competitive compensation, have health and dental
insurance plans, beer and food benefits and use of the company workout
facility.
