KEG PARTS GRAB BAGS*
We have some grab bags of used keg hardware. Grab bags will contain (2)
liquid and (2) gas side plugs, (1) liquid and (1) gas side dip tube, and (1)
keg lid. The bags are separated by Type A, B, and C styles. The parts are
used, the plugs work great, but the parts are not guaranteed to work with
your particular keg. The price is $10, which is about the cost of (1) new
liquid plug. So quite a deal.
*FREE KEG BODIES*
That's right we are giving away keg bodies, no parts included, just plain
old bodies, no lids or anything. Check them out at the store. Limit 3 per
person. Only available while supplies last.

Huzzah!
We have been invited back to host an on-site home brew contest at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival again this year over Labor Day Weekend. We also organize demonstrations on stage.
As many of you know, for the last two years that this has been a fun, low-key event. I am looking for people who would like to help out with the organization. This is a great opportunity to help behind the scenes on a smaller brewing contest. Dedication is more important than experience.
If you are interested in helping organize this event, there will be an informational meeting on Thursday, June 11th at 6:30 pm at the Bulldog (2549 Lyndale Ave S., Minneapolis, MN 55405).
Positions available:
Cellar Master
Judge Coordinator
Steward Coordinator
Stage Demo Coordinator
Brew Shop Liaison
Brew Club Liaison
Database Coordinator
Office/Judging Supply Coordinator
You will need to be available both Saturday and Sunday (September 5th and 6th), and depending on the position on Monday, September 7th.
We are also looking for people interested in doing brewing and informational demos, as well as "Ale Connors" who will answer questions about the event/brewing.
Please email me if you are interested in one of these positions, but are not able to attend this meeting.
Call for Judges and Stewards will be posted closer to the event. If you only want to judge/steward, you do NOT need to attend this meeting.
See you on Thursday. Gera

We are looking for volunteers to help out at the St Paul Summer Beerfest.
First, we need 2-3 people to help out at our club table to answer questions and passout information. If you agree to volunteer you will recieve a free ticket paid for by the club. If we end up with 3-4 total volunteers you will only need to take an hour shift at the table.
Second, The organizers of the event have asked if we could provide volunteers to pour for 2 different one hour shifts shifts from 1-2 and 3-4. We need 5 for each shift and these volunteers will get tickets for a reduced rate if $15 and possible a t-shirt.
Here is a link to web site for information http://www.stpaulsummerbeerfest.com

Dear Beer Enthusiast,
Small brewers are facing an imminent and extremely serious threat to their
businesses. The consequences of remaining silent have the very real
potential of reducing your choice of beer and dramatically increasing the
price of any beer that you purchase.
The Senate Finance Committee in Washington, DC is currently considering a
proposal to increase and equalize the excise tax for alcohol beverages as
part of healthcare reform deliberations. This proposal would triple the
excise tax for 4.5% ABV beer and impose even higher excise tax rates for
higher ABV beers.
If such a proposal becomes reality, there is no question that many small
brewery businesses will suffer, some will close and consumers will face
higher prices and diminished choice in the marketplace.
The Brewers Association brewery members and leadership have been actively
engaged in building the case against an excise tax increase, recently
submitting a
<http://www.maildogmanager.com/link.html?url=1611&client=aobhtml&campaign=22
38&email=mgbrew(a)comcast.net> letter to the Committee outlining our
opposition.
We need you to speak out now. Today or tomorrow at the latest.
If you live in the following states it is most urgent that you contact your
Senator who is on the Senate Finance Committee:
Arizona
Nevada
Arkansas
New Jersey
Delaware
New Mexico
Florida
New York
Idaho
North Dakota
Iowa
Oregon
Kansas
Texas
Kentucky
Utah
Maine
Washington
Massachusetts
West Virginia
Michigan
Wyoming
Montana
If your Senators are not members of that committee, ask them to contact
their Finance Committee colleagues and express their opposition to this
proposal moving forward.
Your ask of them is simple:
Oppose the Tax Increase. Let them know that you oppose, in the strongest
possible terms, raising the federal excise tax on beer because of the
serious consequences it would have on small brewers and the craft beer they
brew. Additional talking points appear below.
Once again: If one of your Senators sits on the Senate Finance Committee
(roster of members below), urge them to oppose this proposal in committee
deliberations.
If your Senators are not members of that committee, ask them to contact
their Finance Committee colleagues and express their opposition to this
proposal moving forward.
Take Action - Call and/or email your Senators'
38&email=mgbrew(a)comcast.net> Washington or district offices and make your
personal case against this massive excise tax increase.
As always, thanks for your support.

ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE TO SMALL BREWERS EXCISE TAXES
Small brewers are small Main street businesses, typically employing 10 to 50
employees.
* Small brewers represent only 4% of the entire U.S. beer market by
volume, with 95% of them being very small businesses (producing 15,000
barrels or less per year).
We strongly oppose proposals to increase the excise tax on beer.
* Proposals to increase and equalize the tax among all types of
alcohol will tax small brewers at the highest rates because our specialty,
gourmet and innovative beers typically have higher alcohol contents.
* Brewers already pay a disproportionately higher share of taxes
compared with other products - federal, state and local taxes represent over
40% of the retail price for beer while the same taxes equal nearly 24% of
the price for all other purchases.
Higher taxes will worsen the economic recession - resulting in less
competitive products, reduced sales and revenues, lost jobs and, for some
small brewers, business closures.
* $1 per case excise tax increase will typically cost the consumer at
least $1.69 due to successive mark-ups as the case moves from brewer to
wholesaler to retailer.
* Many small brewers are struggling to deal with the consequences of
the 2008 spike in ingredient and operational costs.

Facebook's offices are located at 1601 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94304.
As I mentioned yesterday at the club meeting, Dave Luskey recently had a
severe accident at work.
He fell 12 feet, fractured his skull and damaged his spine. He's in a
wheelchair and they do not know if or when he will be able to walk.
Dave is currently at:
Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (part of Abbot Nortwestern)
800 E. 28th St.
Minneapolis, MN 55407
612-863-4200 or 1-866-880-3550
Dave is expected to return home around June 16th.
I visited Dave yesterday. He is doing remarkably well and would love
visitors.
I suggest calling before visiting as he may be in physical therapy and I
don't know the exact visiting hours.
