Subject: January Business Meeting This Saturday!!
Hello Ale Stars,
This Saturday, January 12 beginning at 2:00 PM will be the clubs 2008
business meeting and election of officers. We will gather at the Dubh Linn
pub in Duluth. Bring some home brew if you have some and a snack to share
with the group (we got the OK for the Dubh Linn to bring it in).
A few weeks ago I asked for people interested in running for a club office
to contact me so I could let the rest of the club know in order to ruin
their lives with accusations of past wrongdoings. Well, below is the ballot
of suckers.er.volunteers who have indicated they would be willing to lead
the club for the next two years. The good news is there's still time
between now and this Saturday to dig up all the dirt you can on them:
President - Mark Dexter - I don't even know where to start. We all have
negatives of this guy in action.
Vice President - Dan Slick (a.k.a. Mr. Beer) -Claims the payola accusation
was never proved. Known to be hording thousands of pounds of DME in the
event there is a shortage.
Treasurer - Laurie Daiken - Has no explanation for (or recollection of) the
300 cases of malt whisky recently delivered directly from Scotland to her
home.
Secretary - Terry Sarne - I was unable to dig up any dirt on her, but I'm
sure she's guilty of something. The good news is the job will punish her
for whatever sins she's committed.
Brew Master - Ron Paul! - Just wanted to see if you were paying attention.
;-D
WARNING!!! - THE TAX MAN COMMETH (Where is W when you need him?) - This is
also the meeting at which dues is due to be due. $20 per member family for
the next two years (or some strange rule like that).
GREAT NORTHERN BREW-HA-HA:
We are looking for volunteers to help steward and judge the Great Northern
Brew-Ha-Ha. The competition is set for February 8-9, 2008 and will be held
at the Belgian Club in Superior, WI. Following the flights on Friday night,
there will be an indoor pub crawl featuring samples of our local brewpub
favorites. Saturday evening will have the awards ceremony at the Belgian
Club, followed by a party at Thirsty Pagan Brewing.
To volunteer steward or judge, please visit our website at:
<http://www.northernalestars.org/greatnorthernbrewhaha.html>
www.northernalestars.org/greatnorthernbrewhaha.html
Beginning January 14th entries will be accepted for the 2008 Great Northern
Brew-Ha-Ha.
This year's contest will have prizes and medals for all 1st, 2nd and 3rd
place winners as well as Best of Show, novice, best brew name and our very
own "Snowblower Brew" (you know, the brew you grab after a long day of
cleaning up after a blizzard!). In addition, the Best of Show winner will
have the opportunity to brew their winning entry on a grand scale, and have
it featured, at Thirsty Pagan Brewing in Superior, WI.
To save on shipping costs, entries may be dropped off at the Upper
Mississippi Mash-out in St. Paul, MN on January 25-26, 2008. Or, they can be
dropped off at the Thirsty Pagan Brewing in Superior, WI any time between
January 14th and February 1st.
Well, this is it. My last e-Newsletter. Before I ride off into the sunset,
I'd like to say thanks to everyone for putting up with me these past 6
years (Walt said my title should have been Club Wise Ass). What will I do
with all my free time? I plan on taking a vacation to the Grand Canyon to
spit, then write my memoirs. :-D
Keep on brewing.
Cheers!
Steve Daiken

If you plan on volunteering to judge or steward for the '08 Upper
Mississippi Mash-Out you have until Wednesday 1/16 when the online
registration will close.
We want to be able to give judges their assignments a week before the
contest so they can prep for any styles with which they may need a
refresher.
If you absolutely can't sign up by 1/16 I will do my best to work you
into the schedule if you contact me directly, but you have to realize
seating is limited.
