I sent Jeff a seperate note, but thought I'd check here also.
Anyone know if the buy is on, and where pickup is?

Subject: Re: 5 gal Keg Purchase
No disrespect to you, Jeff, but could I get a couple of people to email me and vouch for him? A few guys up here in the Brainerd area are ordering some kegs, so I'll be mailing Jeff a check to pre-pay for the kegs. I'm sure Jeff's a really nice guy, but I'm a bit wary of sending a check to someone I've never met (at least not yet, of course!).
So, if you would, please drop me a line yet tonight as I plan on mailing it out with the mail in the morning.
Thanks all! And thanks, Jeff for arranging this!

this will probably be the last time I will be able to do this as my
supplier is selling out his remaining inventory at the end of Nov. Do not
miss out on this opportunity as you will not be able to find them at this

I am shooting for 75 kegs minimum as the goal to keep our pricing. I am
planning to pick them up on Saturday Nov.17th and have everybody pick them
up on Sunday the 18th. Your order must be prepaid!! I will need a check or

check made out to me and send it to the following address:

Send an email to Jeffluskey@starband .net
The email should include the following information:

2. Number of kegs
3.Total amount of the check that you are mailing to me.
4.Your name and phone number.
Please email me your order as soon as possible and no later than Wed.
11/14 so I can get an accurate count of how many kegs and what styles. The
check needs to be in my hand by the end of the day Thursday 11/15. If I am
unable to get close to total of 75 kegs I may need to cancel and return
your checks/money to you. I apologize for the short notice, but I just

LOL! Sounds like they're populating the fridge for the office Christmas party to me!
They have not registered it as a BJCP-sanctioned competition, and they have not (to my knowledge) asked for any help from the local beer judge community, so I wouldn't expect any sort of useable scoresheets back. No mention of any awards other than the "grand prize". And.. a six-pack of precious home brew required for evaluation?
Caveat emptor!

I called and talked to a worker. She said she thought they needed about a 6 pk. I asked, really? Yeah, that should be good. Clearly they aren't in the habit of judging a ton of beer. That is way overkill. If I submit I would bring maybe 3-4 bottles. I mean, come on.
Some type of form would be filled out when you drop them off. I did not ask about multiple entries. I have no idea of the judging criteria either. Just, the one they like best?
The deadline is Dec 18.
Bottles can be dropped off at the downtown office. I don't know about shipping.
I am guessing they don't know what they are getting into. I mean, for a prize this great, they could be unknowingly unleashing a tsunami of entries upon themselves, and are about to drown in waves of locally made beer.

Once again, the MHBA Teach-A-Friend-To-Homebrew Day event was an unqualified
success! Over 30 interested people showed up to join over 30 club members
watch brewing demos, enjoy a warm sunny day on the patio, and buy copies of
Doug Hoverson's book, Land of Amber Waters.
Big thanks to Barley John's Brewpub! They have hosted this event all four
years, and they really bend over backwards for us.
Big thanks to Midwest Supplies, Brew & Grow, and Northern Brewer! Each
donated an equipment kit and ingredient kit to be given to a newbie as a
door prize. The recipients of those prizes were ecstatic, and went home
with everything they needed to start brewing immediately.
Big thanks to President Gera Exire LaTour, VP Al Boyce, member Don Harju,
and author Doug Hoverson! Al brought and explained bottling and all-grain
equipment, and the other three volunteers demonstrated the art of brewing to
the assembled throng.
Big thanks to Chris Smith for delivering all the cider!
And thank you to all the folks who came out. Without a crowd, it's just me
drinking by myself at Barley John's.

News from our brother club in Duluth, the Northern Ale Stars

Subject: Holiday Happy Hour
This Friday, November 16th, is the 2007 Northern Ale Stars Holiday Happy
Hour. We plan to meet at Fitgers Brewhouse beginning around 4:30-5:00-ish to
light the official NAS holiday season candle. We will meet in the upstairs
loft area of the brewhouse and hang out until whenever. The Duluth Christmas
City of the North Parade begins a couple of hours later for those who would
like to head downtown and attend.
Next Brew-Ha-Ha Meeting:
The next meeting of volunteers for the Great Northern Brew-Ha-Ha homebrew
competition will be Wednesday December 5th at Database Queen Terry Sarnes
home (543 N 43rd Ave. W, Duluth, 218-349-8006), time TBA, but probably 6:00
PM. If you missed the first meeting and would like to help out, plan on
attending.
Magical Mystery Beers:
As noted in a previous e-mail, the Ale Stars will have booths at the Trust
in the Land (January 26th) and Uncorked (February 7th) events and be serving
home brew to promote the club and the hobby. Were still looking for
miscellaneous bottles of homebrew to serve for the Mystery Beer cooler. If
you have a few orphan bottles you would be willing to donate to a good
cause, contact Dan Slick (a.k.a. Mr. Beer) at
<mailto:slicker807@hotmail.com> slicker807(a)hotmail.com.
2008 Business Meeting & Election of Officers:
The 2008 NAS business meeting and election of officers will be Saturday,
January 12th at the Dubh Linn Pub beginning at 2:00 PM-ish. This is where we
will discuss all club business and set the direction the club will head for
the next two years. Bring your nominees, ideas, opinions and of course
homebrew.
Its a Wally Wally Christmas:
Its that time of year again. Attached is an invitation to all club members
to Walt and Mo Pittacks annual Christmas extravaganza. There will be food,
games, dancers, marching bands and of course homebrew.
Whats on Tap Comrade Leinenkugel ?:
The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company is rolling out a Russian Imperial
Stout as it continues to explore the "big beer" arena as part of its Big
Eddy line of brews. Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout, the second in the Big
Eddy series, hits select markets in Michigan and Wisconsin this week. In
Wisconsin, it will be available on draft at select bars noted for their
beer selection (whatever MillerCoors definition of that is). It will also
be available in 4-pack bottles in liquor stores and specialty supermarkets
(Pic-n-Save). In Michigan, Russian Imperial Stout will be available in
4-pack bottles only (sorry Brian and Tom).
Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout, at 9.5% alcohol by volume, boasts a
selection of eleven malts and grains, balanced by three distinct hops.
Munich, Caramel and Chocolate malts combine with classic Pale Ale malts to
provide a rich, dry character balancing Big Eddy's hoppy assertiveness
provided by Warrior, Summit and Glacier hops (no wonder theres a hop
shortage). The "Big Eddy" moniker is said to be derived from the name of the
spring that feeds the Leinenkugel brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wis Im not
even going to touch that.
Cheers!
