Ok, Just in case you want some pointers, a cold beer, or need your
weekly dose of some "oh yeah's" I am making the ribbon winning version
of Irish Red Ale and would welcome visitors, spectators, and critics
alike. The event starts now and finishes around 10:00.

WHOA!!
If we every WERE to have an AHA conference in this area, one of these
would be a MUST! Dave, where did you get that photo? Do you think they
have plans for it somewhere? I think the clubs could go in on producing
one of these. I'm SERIOUS!! :-D

MASSIVE boo-boo on MY part!
Gera Exire LaTour also took the exam, and advanced to CERTIFIED!
Gera also coordinated the exam, and through her efforts she helped the
class collectively scored the one of the highest average score in recent
history!
Good job Gera!

Tough year for brewpubs in old railway stations to the north and west . . .
When I was in Bemidji a week ago, I tried to go to Union Station Brewpub right in Bemidji across from the Paul and Babe statues, but alas--they had shut down!
I didn't get the full story from the locals, but at least for the time being, there is not a brewpub in Bemidji. :(
Interesting web site I saw on a commercial last night.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them...
well, I have others. Groucho Marx
While cleaning out the kitchen, the SO found my German 1 liter glasses.
My dad got these in Germany while attending Oktoberfest. Anyone want
them? I'll even throw in a few Grolsch style bottles if it helps.
I noticed the next club meeting is March 4th and includes a swap meet.
If someone from the west side of town is going to the club swap meet and
wants to take them, let me know.

Surly Beer News
Hello Surly Nation!
Big news! On Saturday, Feb 18, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune will run an
article about Surly Brewing Company. Reporter Chris Riemenschneider and a
photographer spent more than two hours at the brewery this week and we had
a
great time. At least I did. Gotta love photo shoots that entail drinking
lots of great beer.
Check this: Two weeks ago, Surly was available in just two Metro
locations.
As of today, 13 area bars and restaurants have Bender, Furious or both!
Now,
some of these establishments have yet to tap their Surly keg, so check out
the ?Surly Bars? page and call the new additions with questions. Here are
the places that are currently pouring or will be this weekend: Acadia
Café,
Blue Nile, Bryant Lake Bowl, Cafe Twenty Eight, Grumpy?s ? Northeast, The
Happy Gnome, Mac's Industrial, MacKenzies, McCormicks & Schmicks, The
Muddy
Pig, Solera, Triple Rock Social Club, University Lounge. At this rate of
growth, we?ll be in every Minnesota watering hole in three months and
should
surpass Budweiser later this year. Or something like that.
Two other notes: First of all, we?re not quite ready to give tours. We?re
finishing up a couple of building features mandated by the city, but then
the doors will open to our adoring public. You?ll be the first to know, we
promise. Secondly, we ain?t bottling anytime soon, so stop asking. Gosh!
We
just began brewing, people! Give us some time to get our beer legs.
Now that we?re delivering Surly, we get to see lots of friendly faces
raising glasses. It?s so satisfying to see our hard work enjoyed by all
y?all. We never get tired of hearing about how people love the beer, so
keep
the feedback coming. And remember; be sure to sport your Surly swag at
bars.
We?re often out and about, and if we see you representing then your next
Surly is on us!
Cheers,
omar

Congrats to MhBA and other Twin Cities brewers who did well this past
weekend at the Kansas City Biermeisters competition! They had 386
entries, from 20 states. KCBM is the 2nd contest of 7 in the 2006 High
Plains Brewer of the Year competition. The next competition is the IBU
Open, in Des Moines, IA. With 5 of 7 competitions still to go, you still
have plenty of time to throw your hat in the ring!
