Thanks to the new interest in the bus trip this weekend, we are now at 25 people confirmed!
Get out there please and beat the bushes for five more people. 30 makes the trip extrememly viable. I'm not going to call it one way or the other just yet, but every person closer to 30 gets us all a bit more excited.
Those who have signed up--what's your limit for the cost of the bus? It will be around $50 each if we get to 30. With only 25, we're looking at closer to $60 per person. Please let me know if that's going to make a difference for you, and let me know what your limit is. If the bus is $70, are you out? The reason for most of the fluctuation is because of fuel prices.
Thanks much, and let's find at least five more beer lovers this week!

Subject: Fall Celebration Time
Happy Fall Ale Stars!
Well, it's close enough for me. And with the changing of the leaves also
brings the annual celebration of the harvest...Oktoberfest!!
Yes it's time to gather on the great lawn of Der Hoag Estate for fun,
laughter and merriment. As is tradition, the Annual Northern Ale Stars
Oktoberfest will be hosted by Don and Jo Hoag on Saturday September 24th,
at
their rambling estate located at 5426 Bear Trap Rd, in Saginaw
(218-729-6302). The festivities will commence at the 2:00 PM-ish hour and
run until the last piece of firewood has been extinguished.
Be sure to wear your bocce shoes as numerous great tournaments have been
known to take place at the event. Also bring some homebrew or, if your
totally out because every last drop you had was consumed at the Hop Harvest
this past weekend, bring along some good commercial harvest celebration
beer. Das Great Fires of Weber will also also be lit in honor of the
season,
so bring along some flesh to grill, as well as a side dish to share.
Hestons Fall Beer Weekend!
This year's Fall Beer Weekend will be held October 20th to October 23rd. If
you haven't called and reserved space for yourself yet, there's still time.
Greg and the boyz are in Alaska at the moment, so I'm sure Barb would be
happy to hear from you (218-388-2243) or e-mail info(a)hestons.com.
The theme for the group meal on Saturday will be "Anything, as long as it's
made with beer (except beans)". If you'll be up Thursday night for the
traditional Pub Night, Barb says the food theme will be "anything easy".
That's my favorite kind of food!
Big Lake Brewfest
Don't forget the Big Lake Brewfest is this Saturday at UWS's Wessman Arena
from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We could always use a few more volunteers, so
e-mail me back if you'd like to help.
Cheers!

I saw a headline that caught my eye in a e-newsletter this morning. It
seemed brewing related in a technical announcement.

Wow a major software company is buying a brewing school? Well not
quite, its a different Siebel but it was enough to get me to click the
link.

These are real, genuine degrees that include Bachelors, Masters

kept quiet for years. The opportunity exists due to a legal loophole
allowing some established colleges to award degrees at their discretion.
With all of the attention that this news has been generating, I wouldn't
be surprised to see this loophole closed very soon.

Sorry about the empty message that happened moments ago.
That was just to get your attention and to build
anticipation!
The bus is gassed and waiting . . .

(Titletown Brewpub is ACROSS the STREET!!)

Other costs--depends on how much sampling you do at
nine(?!?) different establishments!
You don't want to miss this trip! We'll be talking about it
for years. To book, please e-mail me at jlongb(a)ties2.net,
or call me at 651.292.9693 to reserve your spot. Please
send me a non-refundable (unless the whole trip is
cancelled) deposit of $50 per person (payable to John
Longballa) so that I know who's really going. Many spouses
are coming along, so assure your non-brewing others that
they will have non-dorks to talk to!
Priority will be given to those who have responded to
previous messages (assuming I get their money quickly), but
there should be plenty of room for all!
Thanks for you interest in this trip, and please e-mail or
call me with any questions.
See you on the bus!

Last night I was doing a quick survey of membership dues for homebrew

Q: Why is top-posting frowned upon?
Hey I am very interested in becoming a member of your club. I Have been
studying all grain brewing with a craft brewer from kodiak Alaska, but I do
not have the confidence to brew on my own. I Graduated from Le Cordon Bleu
culinary school and I really take traditional beer seriously. I just need to
learn as much as I can, and believe one on one experience with real beer
enthusiasts is a good way to learn. I wanted to attend your meeting on the
15th, in St Paul or at least get some more info sent to me . thanks a bunch

I wish I could take credit for this but it is compliments of the Carolina Brewmasters out of Charlotte, NC:

Pretty simple if you think about it...
1) Buy brewing ingredients at a local homebrew shop.
2) Brew delicious homebrew.
3) Keg or bottle delicious homebrew.
4) After getting home from hard day of work, have a homebrew.
5) Have another... and perhaps one more.
6) Become legally impaired, and thus unable to operate a vehicle safely.
7) Leave car in garage for the evening, foregoing trips to dry cleaners,
convenience stores and restaurants - all places where you would just
spend more money anyway. Cut gas expense by 50%.
8) Funnel savings into making more delicious homebrew, offsetting the cost
of increased brewing volume.
9) Law of supply and demand kicks in: Lower demand for gas = Lower prices.
10) Save money... save gas... save the world!
Just goes to show you... if only the world had more homebrewers, we might
not be in this mess...
