Brewers, I was planning on ordering the hops this evening from Freshops @
$10 a pound (sorry not a URL). Wanting to make sure I got a good deal, I
came across another site that also has wonderful hops PUTERBAUGH FARMS.
Here is the deal.
We either get 10 pounds or 25 pounds for the same price. Which way should
we go?
Anyone want to get in on a Willamette whole hop purchase? It will take a
while to use the remainder up.
Please let me know at home.
Thanks in advance
Rick O and the MHBA gang.
Congrats Marc!
I always brew heavy, then add water after the boil. Just keep in mind
that upon cooling, the wort will have a smaller volume by 4%. Use the
handy formula
Vf*Gf = 0.96*Vi*Gi
Where V is volume
and G is Gravity.
For example, if you have 4.5 gallons of 14 Plato wort and want the
gravity to be 12:
Vf = .96(4.5)(14)/12 = 5.04 gallons
Top off to 5.04 in the kettle and you are good to go.
