Farmhouse Brewing Supply
Put some Citra leaf up in Lb's. If anyone in a Club or even some of you smaller breweries want to purchase whole mini bales of Citra, Chinook, Simcoe, Centennial or Sorachi Ave PM me I don't want to deal with all these leaf hops!
Not sure if any of you are interested in this, but thought I would send this along.

Hey folks!
A couple big things:
1) Our JAB wine barrel is coming in ahead of schedule! We should have it this week, which means we need to get brewing in order to fill it before it gets nasty and dried out. Andrew has organized this and will take charge of keeping the barrel in shape. We need volunteers to help us brew this beer. We'll need about 50 gallons of beer. I'm brewing 10 gallons today, and I think Andrew is brewing today as well. Please respond to this or send me an e-mail if you can help out! We will try all the beers before adding them to the barrel to make sure none are infected. Next time we try a sour!
The recipe is based on a Bier de Garde.
For 5 gallons
9.5# Pilsner
3# Munich
0.5# Aromatic
0.5# Biscuit
6 oz Special B
1.5 oz Fuggles (goal 20-25 IBU) at 60 minutes
0.5 oz Strisselpalt hops at 20 min
Mash at 150 for 60 minutes
Ferment with American Ale yeast of whatever type you want at around 66-68
2) Club only competition barleywine deadline is March 1. So far I only have my 3 barleywines in the running. I think Keith and Steven have one for me. If anyone else has any American or English BW (not oaked or messed with!) please get them to me by this Saturday (call or e-mail me so I know!) A small group will get together and do a quick taste off. The Club will pay for this entry and there is no shipping since the Primary Fermenters are organizing the judging here in MN.
3) Next meeting is at Tim's house in Chaska on March 8th! Tim will do a quick talk on Meads. We will be doing a taste off/mash paddle to see which beer will go on to a regional Lagunitas competition where the winner has a chance to brew that beer at Lagunitas!! Ben Ducklow stepped up and is organizing this--good man! They want American Ale yeasts, no spices or wood: something easy to drink. We will also need a whole 6 pack of the beer to enter into the official comp, so make sure you have enough stored up!
Please contact me with any questions or if you can take part in the barrel or barleywine stuff!!!!

Here's an update on JAB brew shirts:
I'll get a picture of the art in the next few days, but the club has decided to make brew shirts - a black Dickies 60/40 blend, their top quality with stain and moisture control. Full-color logo at the back, faded white B&W detail over pocket, like cards fanning out of it. They will be pimpy - we've already got almost 30 shirts ordered, and are trying to get to an order of 50 minimum for the full color logo.
As a member of the club, JAB will embroider your name on them for all current members who preorder and pay for their shirts at the March meeting at my house.
Shirts will be $25 for Short Sleeve, $30 for Long Sleeve. An extra $2 for XXL, $3 for XXXL. Get one for each season and all the family. If you are looking at size, these are standard Dickies work shirts and can be found anywhere that sells work gear. They are generously cut and true to size, and my XL-XXL butt was even able to fit into a Large, albeit like a sausage.
I'll email again through The Barn when I have the art. Any questions, email me at troets(a)comcast.net .
Hey Folks,
Anyone who has a barleywine you want put in the running to be the official JAB entry for the Club Only Competition, needs to contact me ASAP and get a bottle to me! I'd like to do a tasting of our potential entries so we can get one in on time!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Summit's Damian McConn promoted to head brewer
ST. PAUL, Minn. - (Feb. 7, 2013) - Summit Brewing Company today announces
that brewer Damian McConn will be taking on the title and role of head
brewer. McConn's new position will include oversight of the brewing
department, training of new personnel, new product development and brand
ambassadorship.
"It's very exciting to be a brewer in Minnesota as the local craft beer
scene continues to grow and expand," said McConn. "I'm honored to have the
opportunity to play an increasing role in Summit's contribution to that
growth."
McConn's interest in the brewing and distilling industries began with a high
school research project on the Cassidy Brewery and Distillery in his native
Kildare, Ireland. He then completed an honors degree in Brewing and
Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, followed by
stints at Ireland's first craft brewery and at the Guinness brewery in
London.
After moving to Minnesota in 2000, McConn spent three years as head brewer
at Sherlock's Brewpub before joining Summit in 2003 as a production and
project brewer.
