Subject: [mba] Bucket-O-Honey
Greetings brewers and mead makers. We have an opportunity to acquire a
decent quantity of honey at a reasonable price and thought it might help
some of you make a batch or two (or three) of mead. Dave Schroeder is
former president of the MHBA (Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association) and
has honey available in 5 gallon buckets (60 pounds). He will sell honey to
us for $120 per five gallons or approximately $24 per gallon. Ive used his
honey before and know it is high quality. Dave is selling his honey
rapidly and will likely be out of stock by early February. Im not trying
to rush or use force but I really enjoy making mead. You should too.
To keep this a low effort project here is how to proceed.
1. Decide you want a bucket or two
2. Send me a check by January 15 to the address below.
3. Make the check for $120 out to Dave Schroeder.
4. Include phone or e-mail address for pickup confirmation.
5. If you want 1/3 bucket or ½ bucket, buy a bucket and find someone
willing to share.
Any other questions, call or e-mail
The Fine print: I will exchange your check for the honey and will keep it
inside until you arrange for pick up. I am not able to front you for your
bucket-o-honey. Im terribly sorry but I dont tweet, twit, text, or accept
pay-pal. I do not have the ability to split buckets. I cannot read your
mind. If you want a bucket, send me a check.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel
MHBA Previous officer and general nice guy.

Huzzah! Welcome to the 7th Annual Byggvir's Big Beer Cup at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival!
Entries showcasing historic, English, and European styles are being accepted from Friday, July 27th through Sunday, August 11th. You can drop your entries off at five Minnesota brew shops: Northern Brewer (Minneapolis & St. Paul), Midwest Supplies (St. Louis Park), Still H20 (Stillwater), and Brew & Grow (Blaine). $6/entry.
Judges and stewards of all skill levels are encouraged to sign up to help out. Judging will be on-site at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival on Saturday, August 24th and Sunday, August 25th.
Last year, we had over 250 entries, with pairs of hand-made drinking vessels, gift certificates, and other fantastic prizes from our sponsors given out.
We at Byggvir's Big Beer Cup are very excited to announce that Mike Hoops from Minneapolis Town Hall has been generous enough to once again offer to brew the best beer of Byggvir's at Town Hall Brewery!
Rules for this prize:
Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery reserves the right to select "Brewers Choice" from the Best of Show round of judging. Brewers Choice may or may not be the Best of Show Winner. No meads, ciders, or sour beers will be considered.
Brewers Choice will be brewed at Town Hall Brewery within the next calendar year. It will be served on tap at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery the following August.
The award winning brewer is welcome and encouraged to join the brew session with Head Brewer Mike Hoops at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery at his/her own expense.
Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery plans to enter the beer in the GABF PRO-AM Competition. Town Hall Brewery will pay the entry fee and provide 2 Passes to the GABF. The winning brewer will be responsible for travel expenses to Denver (airfare, hotel, food, etc.)

Hey JABbers!
A couple things:
1) Next meeting is at my place 1966 Fountain Lane in Waconia on August 9 at 6:30. No theme this week, but feel free to bring some homebrews! I should have the first JAB barrel project (JAB de Garde) on tap by then for everyone to try as well as last year's group brew in bottles!
2) Get working on your JAB yeast experiment for the September meeting!
3) Message from Karie at Enki (please contact her if you can help them out!)
I have some interesting news for you! For the first time, the Carver County Fair will be serving a local craft brewery in the beer garden — ENKI BEERS, to be specific! What does that mean? We're going to need volunteers and help around both the fairgrounds, as well as, tap room. The fair runs from August 7th – 11th and we need someone there to oversee our station from 10:30 am to midnight. We don't need someone to physically pour the beer, but just represent the brewery and be a knowledgeable face for ENKI. In addition, our tap room will need staffing, also. We specifically need help in the tap room on Saturday evenings, 5-9 or 6-10'ish.
Thank you.

> Howdy folks. Well it’s time for another “cellar update”. Things have really been cracking around here. As soon as the weather started to shape up, the pace intensified to get the first four fermentation vessels installed, fitted and programmed by the second week of June. (We missed our original deadline by one week!!) Consequently, we had about thirty people representing five different trades trying to work in the same area. Then throw in a couple of Germans who are responsible for training and programming. Yikes. And the painters were the ones to really feel the squeeze.

Crafting A Nation, a documentary filmed by Free Mind Productions, from Denver, CO, covers economic recovery and the American Dream via the booming craft beer industry. The film visits craft breweries in 15 locations, along with following a new Colorado brewery from idea to grand opening. The movie shows these breweries as they finish construction, launch their brands, and open to the public, and focuses on the struggles and triumphs of small business owners. Crafting A Nation tells stories of local economies, where a brewery serves as a catalyst to a chain reaction which occurs from breweries revitalizing a section of a city and providing jobs, and the resulting domino effect that follows with other small businesses that work together to succeed as a result of the brewery.

Unfortunately, I'll be missing the campout this year..I think I've been to
everyone since that 'hot' one down south when we visited Minnesota Malting.
So, if anyone can bring some 'Jenga' wood, I'm sure it would be appreciated.
If you don't know what it is, it started with small cutoffs from my
workshop..relatively little pieces that people can use to build a Jenga
tower inside a burning fire. Yes, it's crazy!
Thanks!

Hey JABbers!
Some updates for the month:
1) We have scheduled the JAB family cookout for 9/15/13 (a Sunday) starting at noon. This will be in the usual spot at Rosemount thanks to Kent getting it saved for us. Thanks Kent! We will send out reminders later with directions, but save the date now so you and your family have no excuse for missing it! We usually have folks bring their own meat to grill and a side dish to share with the group. We will have the jockey box set up so you can bring kegs, or growlers or bottles of homebrew to share. I'm looking forward to the event again this year.
2) JAB member Tim Roets is busy brewing his Kolsch at Town Hall today and we will try to have a JAB event when they release it at the brewpub...more details in the future!
3) Lucid Brewer For A Day competition is now open for entries (I think the deadline is the 21st, so get going if you want to get some in.)
4) State Fair comp is coming up and registration opens July 19! Bring us some JAB brewcred!
5) Byggvir's Big Beer Cup is taking registration from July 27-Aug 11. As usual JAB will be helping to put this on and we will need judges and stewards to help out. Gera has had a lot on her plate recently and we really need to help out this year! Judging will be August 24-25 so leave your schedules free!
Hope everyone is having a good summer and brewing up some great beers!
