Subject: [mba] Bucket-O-Honey
Greetings brewers and mead makers. We have an opportunity to acquire a
decent quantity of honey at a reasonable price and thought it might help
some of you make a batch or two (or three) of mead. Dave Schroeder is
former president of the MHBA (Minnesota Hobby Beekeepers Association) and
has honey available in 5 gallon buckets (60 pounds). He will sell honey to
us for $120 per five gallons or approximately $24 per gallon. Ive used his
honey before and know it is high quality. Dave is selling his honey
rapidly and will likely be out of stock by early February. Im not trying
to rush or use force but I really enjoy making mead. You should too.
To keep this a low effort project here is how to proceed.
1. Decide you want a bucket or two
2. Send me a check by January 15 to the address below.
3. Make the check for $120 out to Dave Schroeder.
4. Include phone or e-mail address for pickup confirmation.
5. If you want 1/3 bucket or ½ bucket, buy a bucket and find someone
willing to share.
Any other questions, call or e-mail
The Fine print: I will exchange your check for the honey and will keep it
inside until you arrange for pick up. I am not able to front you for your
bucket-o-honey. Im terribly sorry but I dont tweet, twit, text, or accept
pay-pal. I do not have the ability to split buckets. I cannot read your
mind. If you want a bucket, send me a check.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel
MHBA Previous officer and general nice guy.

The Lagunitas Brewing Company is sponsoring a homebrew contest exclusively for AHA sanctioned home-brew clubs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (This means us!).
The winning homebrewer (along with 3 others chosen at amongst the entire contest) will win a paid trip to California this coming May 29th-31st to visit the Lagunitas Brewery and have the opportunity to brew a beer (which will be sold back in our Minneapolis/St. Paul market)! The competition is looking for a beer that 'consumers would enjoy drinking'; no lagers, fruit/spices or herbs can be used and must be made with an American yeast.
If your interested, here's what you'll need to do: Bring some bottles to share at our next JAB meeting (which is on March 3rd at The Great Tim Roets house in Chaska). We will then vote on (as a club) the one best beer fitted for this competition. The winning brewer will then need to supply a six-pack (to be used for official judging) before May 3rd, 2013.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Attached is the proof of the JAB Dickies Brew Shirts, they look great! They will be even better than the proof shows - we are getting closer to 50 shirts ordered, so we will be able to print the detail on the front pocket in full color instead of B&W at the same price. JAB will also offer personalized embroidered names for all current club members who order and prepay for their shirts by the March 8th meeting at my house - if you are coming, bring it then.
Prices (For sizes S thru XL, XXL is $2 extra, XXXL is $3 extra.):
Dickies Moisture Control/Stain Release Blend
Short Sleeve - $25/Long Sleeve - $30
Dickies 100% Cotton
Short sleeve - $30
Long sleeve - $35
If you didn't order a shirt at the February meeting or contact me with an order, send me an email with the amount and sizes of the shirts that you want, as well as the name you want embroidered over the front pocket.
You can email me at troets(a)comcast.net. Get 'em now, JAB will likely have few, if any, extras after we finalize the order.
Thanks,
Tim Roets

> NHC Registration Update:
> The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) is halting National Homebrew Competition (NHC) registration due to the extensive technical difficulties with the system that we have been troubleshooting (to limited effect) since registration opened earlier today. We will post updates on the status of NHC registration as we have them.
>
> The AHA is deeply sorry for the problems associated with NHC registration today. The AHA worked in advance with our providers to ensure that registration would be seamless. But as we all saw, that did not result as promised or planned. We accept responsibility for today’s failures, and we apologize for the headaches.
>
> We realize there will be many questions about next steps for existing and hopeful registrants. Again, please stay tuned for details.
>
> Thank you for your support of the National Homebrew Competition. At the end of the day, the NHC—the world’s largest beer competition—is a testament to your creativity and success as homebrewers. Cheers to that, and again, please accept our apologies.

> There are 499 entries (0 paid and received) from 145 registered participants, judges, and stewards.
It looks like registration is not 'finally closed', that they are having
technical issues and will reopen it when those issues are fixed.
There's a limit of 750 entries per region and it looks like we're at just
under 500. So, stay tuned!

Wow I totally spaced on this! First round opens at 2 PM today! Last year they filled the same day, so if you have some great beers you want to put in get them registered right away!

There's an AHA rally at Summit on April 21.
You should register soon because it will probably fill up.

If you're not an AHA member you can join from the JAB web page by clicking
on the header. The club gets money if you do it that way.

Northern Ale-Stars will be hosting the 2013 campout.
The only details are the date, Aug. 2 & 3, and the place, the Boy Scout Camp
at Cass Lake where PHC hosted a couple of year's ago.
