Well, it's close enough for me. And with the changing of the leaves also brings the annual celebration of the harvest...Oktoberfest!! Yes it's time to gather on the great lawn of Der Hoag Estate for fun, laughter and merriment. As is tradition, the Annual Northern Ale Stars Oktoberfest will be hosted by Don and Jo Hoag on Saturday September 24th, at their rambling estate located at 5426 Bear Trap Rd, in Saginaw (218-729-6302). The festivities will commence at the 2:00 PM-ish hour and run until the last piece of firewood has been extinguished. Be sure to wear your bocce shoes as numerous great tournaments have been known to take place at the event. Also bring some homebrew or, if your totally out because every last drop you had was consumed at the Hop Harvest this past weekend, bring along some good commercial harvest celebration beer. Das Great Fires of Weber will also also be lit in honor of the season, so bring along some flesh to grill, as well as a side dish to share. Hestons Fall Beer Weekend! This year's Fall Beer Weekend will be held October 20th to October 23rd. If you haven't called and reserved space for yourself yet, there's still time. The theme for the group meal on Saturday will be "Anything, as long as it's made with beer (except beans)". If you'll be up Thursday night for the traditional Pub Night, Barb says the food theme will be "anything easy". That's my favorite kind of food!
