Hi Susan, Curt & All,
Sorry for the late reply but I have been out of town.
Good call Susan. I did include the cask ale and plan on it.
So we have: Open Cask Ale, Open Belgian, Open Lager, Open Ale & Open Mead. As far as
I'm concerned, the samples can come out of kegs, growlers etc. If you have your
sample bottled two or three would be great.
I know these open categories are not very popular with some people. I would like to see
the campout get back to what it originally was. Beer lovers getting together to meet
friends, talk beer, drink other peoples beer and share their own beer no matter if it fit
into any category or not. This informal forum has led to sharing of information, fantastic
beers, meads, wines and cask ales. There are too many great brewers in our clubs that are
not attending. Maybe this informal judging and expanded beer category will help. I am in
the process of revamping 5 of my brewing trophies into traveling trophies for the favorite
beer in each open category. The original master of malt keg will go to the master of malt
as usual. I would like to see this format continued so we can involve more people. We have
so many BJCP events but so few low key events like this one. Hopefully, people will get
behind it.
Cheers to all,
Wayne

Hi, I was looking back at the previously announced styles (shown below) and was
wondering if the Cask Ale contest was still on for the campout? It wasn't mentioned
in Curt's e-mail listing the styles.
Thanks,
Susan

The camp-out styles will be open lager, open ales, open meads & open Belgian beer.
They will be judged in the best of show format. The samples can come from kegs, growlers,
bottles, etc. Samples will be labeled as to what type of beer/mead they are.
I would like to see an experimental open cask ale category also. All the details to
come later. Hopefully, this will get more brewers involved. I have a BJCP type event
planned also, stay tuned.
Wayne
