HI, I think I am getting the same spam that Roger is getting. I deleted
the e-mail but believe that it came to mba(a)lips.thebarn.com which is
different and am wondering if somehow someone has gotten a copy of the
entire barn list? I do agree that I have gotten a lot of spam lately from
this list - including one message a few weeks ago including porn
advertising.

The issue is SPAM deliver by the mba list server.
No offense intended to Russell who has generously and graciously provide this service to
us for years, but the current list server software frankly sucks. List members have been
dropped (e.g., me, others confirm they too), messages go undelivered (e.g., the mn
brewfest recipes), and were vulnerable to attack by spammers. Rather than burden Russell,
is it time for a new home?

Actually the list software (ecartis) is
much better than the old one.
It keeps track of no deliverable address and will either put
them into vacation status or drop them if the address is no
longer valid.

As far as SA goes I looked through the logs and yes due to a dir
permission problem it was not filtering messages. This has been
corrected.
As far as the lost message I'm not sure what happened there but I'll
look at the log.
NOTE one side affect of spam filters is they sometimes get it wrong and
incorrectly tag something as spam. Since those messages are not sent to
the list (for obvious reasons) that might be a reason for a non
delivered message.
Since thebarn.com is what I use to manage all my mail I spend quite a
bit of time making sure it does it's job... this includes all of the
mailing list currently hosted there.
I would be interesting in hearing what you think should be done to make

Now that I *hope* this is resolved, I just wanted to publicly thank
Russel Cattelan for his service as janitor of this list. It's real work,
especially when things get screwed up like this.

P.S. One way that many list serving systems will drop subscribers is if
you allow your inbox to overflow, which causes bounce messages back to
the sender. These bounce messages, if formatted correctly, trigger
automatic unsubscription. So, keep your inbox empty!

Maybe some folks need to use a nice operating system like Windows. :)
Other than some occasional spam, I think ALL my messages have been accepted
and delivered.

I think it's a matter of which e-mail servers you use, rather than the
operating system you run your client on. The pop server I use, from
AT&T Broadband, filters out most spam from my e-mail. Their smtp
server, for sending mail, once bounced my message to the list because
thebarn.com was using a multi-hop open relay. See more info at

It's been a long time since I heard anyone call Windows a nice
operating system. I use Mac OS X. :)
