Downtown Chicago's historic Berghoff restaurant is back.
More or less.
The new Berghoff Cafe opened quietly Tuesday, serving the same menu of
German favorites as the 107-year-old restaurant that closed in February.
Some customers say what's missing is many of the restaurant's longtime
unionized workers.
Some of the old employees were rehired at the downstairs cafe. But
customers say others are missing.
The old Berghoff had been one of the only Chicago restaurants to still
employ union cooks and servers.
Berghoff owner Carlyn Berghoff said she will reopen the upstairs bar
area of the restaurant with a new name and reworked menu in May.
