Breweries springing up around Saint Paul are a powerful testament to our current
fascination with the sudsy stuff. However, Minnesota’s capitol city has a long and rich
history with beer, starting with the first brewery opened in Saint Paul in 1849. Today,
Summit and other breweries share the city with thriving brew pubs, taprooms, and their
historic predecessors—the imposing old Hamm’s and Schmidt Breweries, to name a few.
Start your Saturday night early and seek out a new go-to brew with Doug Hoverson, author
of Land of Amber Waters. This meandering three hour tour of Saint Paul’s hoppy past and
present features samples, conversation and hidden gems along the way.
This is being organized by the Minnesota History Center.
