Rick: Stirring devices are ceramic coated (sterilisable) iron or magnetic shapes that you drop into the flask. The variable speed rotating magnet in the hot plate spins the shape. I get pretty good stirring in my flask by adding a few hop pellets to create attachment sites for the steam bubbles. Greg
