It's that time of year again to start thinking about the harvest of apples (for
fermentation purposes, of course). Last year, we had a couple issues that we should try
address:
1. Need more pickers
2. Need more crusher and press capacity
For the first item, we just need as many people as possible to keep picking up apples. It
takes a lot more apples than you think to make 1 gallon, let alone the 5,6, or 10 gals of
fermenter capacity you brought. My guess is that it probably takes about 20 - 24 apples to
make 1 gallon of juice. I'm sure Mark Glewwe will correct my estimate, here...
For the second item, we have a few routes we can go:
a) Have everyone pitch in $10-$20 and have the club by one
b) Have one person buy one and bring it to share
c) Rent one
I called Northern Brewer, and they have a "30 - 50 gallon" capacity basket apple
press. It rents for $50/day. We'd need a crusher, too -- that's another $20.
Please send Mark and me a message letting us know your preference.
Thanks.
Andrew
