Dave-
What where the stats on the Autumn Brew Review? How many people,
etc...
Well, I believe there were about 700 people who attended. We sold almost
as many day-of tickets as in-advance.
Did you meet your goals?
A complicated question. Our main goal was to put on the best beer
festival this city has seen. If input from the people who I have talked
to and the brewers who participated count for anything, I think we
acheived that goal.
A minor goal would be making some money for the two sponsoring
organizations, the MCBG and the Downtown Council. We did not achieve
that goal. However, we didn't bankrupt the organizations either.
This brings us to individual goals of each organization. For the MCBG,
it was to show people that there are quite a few Minnesota breweries that
are making beer that can compete with any beer in the country. I say
this with the utmost sincerety. I've lived in Arizona, Oregon, and
California and I can tell you we *can* compete. Most places (like the
Pacific NW) just have been at it longer than we have.
The goal for the DTC is to promote downtown Minneapolis through events.
We put 700 people in downtown at 7PM on a Saturday night, so I think that
goal was achieved.
Finally, will we do it again? I'd say yes, but we'll have to see how the
DTC feels. I think it will grow at least two-fold next year. But we
need the support of the people of Minnesota to insure the event can
continue. It's a lot of work to put on the festival just to break even
(or less). The organizers from MCBG have full-time jobs. Paul Norton is
the National Director of Sales for Malt-O-Meal. I am trying to keep my
brewery running while juggling all the details required to pull off the
event. But, I guess I'd do it again, and I'm sure Paul would say the
same.
Well, that is probably a longer answer that you wanted or needed, but
there you have it.
