Quoting Mike Moranz <mmoranz(a)net-info.com>:
I too have been shopping for a new "system".
Currently, I'm favoring the
Lincoln Wear-Ever 40 qt aluminum for $65 (Hockenbergs on Kasota Ave) with
the lid for another $15. A variety of bulkhead fittings are available ($30)
for my drain and hooking up whatever screens and or devices I choose. If
you want top notch aluminum, check out the Vollrath Beauty. $144
I think I have the Lincoln pot (I don't know for sure, it's unlabeled
now) and like it. It's very rugged, and I feel quite comfortable moving
it while full. As for the lid, I don't have one of those. I found that
my canning pot lid fit it perfectly, so I use that. You can also use
the old restaurant trick of covering the pot with a cookie sheet/sheet pan.
I've also decided against drilling/spigot-ing the pot for now. Even
with my low water pressure, I can move wort pretty well with a
wortwizard-style suction pump, and just siphon out of the pot through a
counterflow chiller.
I don't actually have the real wortwizard, BTW, but I'd recommend it over
what I have now, a pet store python pump.
