Subject: BJCP Written Proficiency Exam - 9/8/2013 - Minneapolis
I am hosting a BJCP Written Proficiency Exam for the North Region of the BJCP on September
8, 2013 at 10am in Minneapolis, MN. To qualify to take the BJCP Written Proficiency Exam,
you must have a score of at least 80% on the Tasting exam, and have accumulated at least
10 judging points.
The exam consists of two sections. The first section is 20 T/F questions, where each
wrong answer results in a 0.5 point deduction from your overall exam score. The second
section consists of five essay questions. Each of these questions is worth 20 points.
As you probably know, the BJCP judge advancement system has changed. Now the tasting
portion of your score counts for 50% of your total score, where it used to only count for
30% of your written score. Based on this, with your current best Tasting score, you would
need to score of 99 on the Written exam to advance to Master. You need 40 points for
Master, half of which must be Judging Points.
You can find the study guide for the new exam at:
http://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_Study_Guide.pdf
Some people have found the BJCP Exam for Dummies useful in studying for this test also.
The 2010 version is currently published on the BJCP website. This was published prior to
the new exam. It can be found at:
http://www.bjcp.org/docs/BJCP_Study_Guide.pdf
If you'd like the 2012 version, let me know and I'll email you a copy.
I only have 5 seats remaining for this exam, so it's first come, first served. To
reserve your seat for the exam, send a non-refundable check for $15 payable to me. I will
let you know immediately if you are one of the 5. I will return any checks that come in
after that.
