And of course, more new beer!
10/18/2008
Bitter Brawl II - Monday Oct 27th 6:30pm
IPA's with Michael Agnew.
Hop Heads listen up! The last Bitter Brawl with Michael was so popular we
decided to do another one! It will be held here at The Four Firkins on
Monday night the 27th at 6:30pm. As usual there are only 35 places available
so if you came to the last one please be fair and don't try to sign up for
this one as well. We have to let everyone have a go!
For those of you who are new to all of this the "Bitter Brawl" is a super
fun beer tasting class with lots of audience participation. We try six
different pale ales and IPA's and duke it out with each other as to which is
the best example of each. Ultimatley we end up with one best of show. Be
prepared - you will be expected to defend you beer!!!
As well as being a super nice bloke, Michael Agnew is a certified Beer Judge

to your house and do a private beer tasting event!
To sign up for the event on the 27th just email alvey(a)thefourfirkins.com
Due to the massive response we get every time we announce one of these
classes we are going to do things a bit differently this time. It will be a
random lottery. Submit your email request by 5pm Monday 20th and if your
name is chosen you'll get an email letting you know that you're in. If you
don't hear back from us that means you missed out on this one.
Please include "Bitter Brawl" in your emails subject line.
The class will cost $15. No coupons this time, sorry!
Good luck!

Sierra Nevada - Wet Hop Harvest Ale
Absolutely Soaking Wet Hops!
Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the
Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as
"wet" un-dried hops-the same day they are picked-to our brewery in Chico
where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their
oils and resins are still at their peak. 6.7% ABV

On the shelves at The Firkins right now!
Boulevard Brewing - Saison with Brett
Smokestack series # 5
Boulevard is really going to TOWN these days, pulling out ALL the stops with
this Smokestack series of theirs. The latest offering is a small batch
release of a Saison with Brett ( read - funky wild yeast ! ).

On the shelves right now!
Cantillon Iris
Very rare beer!
Iris is made in the style of lambic - fermented by wild yeasts and aged in
oak wine casks at the brewery - but with a couple of big differences. First,
it is made entirely from malted barley, whereas traditional lambic uses one
third unmalted wheat. In addition, the brewery has used fresh Hallertau hops
in the boil and for dry-hopping the Iris. (Traditional lambic calls for hops
that have been aged for several years, which impart virtually no hop flavor
to the finished product.)
Iris is a rare and unusual treat to thrill the connoisseur of traditional
Belgian beers - absolutely, utterly unique.

Needless to say, we don't have many of these....
Bells Brewing - Hell Hath No Fury!
American "Dubbel"
A brew that gives you either sympathy for the devil or the courage to face
him. Goes especially well with your favorite lost my girl/truck/dog/trailer
song.
7.7 % ABV this is a very small batch from Bells, it'll only be around for a
few weeks, it's a huge beer, malty and complex. Absolutely worth a try.
