Hello, everyone. (ala Karl Haas) Today I picked up a bottle of Nightmare Porter from the Whole Foods near Ashland and Belmont. This is a CAMRA award winning brew and is well deserving of the acclaim. The label on this brew shows a silver horse rearing itself up as if it's about to charge into the town it's glaring at with its menacing eyes. This emblem is set upon a dramatic image of a spiked cemetery gate and a tombstone that reads "Champion Winter Beer of Britain, 1997". I must say, this is one of the best porters I've ever had. Soooo creamy and smooth and rich... I don't know what kind of malts they used (the label only says they used four malts), but the flavor the roasted barley imparts to this beer is not as bitter as I'm used to with Sierra Nevada or the various Goose Island porters I've had. Not much in way of hops apart from a slight aroma and a slight back end bitterness. Truly a champion brew, IMHO.
