Boulevard brought a different beer line up to the GABF. There were 5
different Belgian ales. The Wit they have made a few years. The new
ones are dubble, tripel, Saison and I think a quad. My impression is
these beers are truly Belgian in character. Better than most US
produced examples.
The rep told me they are just being introduced. The new four are not
bottled yet. He expects them to be in corked bottles.
I am unsure of the last name here: Steven Powell became the master
brewer at Boulevard a few years ago. He is from Belguim, so I don't
think it's too surprising he want to add these beers to the lineup. I
judged with Steven a couple of times at KC homebrew comps.
The brewery stuck with it's original 30 barrel brewhouse until just
recently. A couple of years ago when I toured with the Kansas City
BrewMeisters, they were using it 24x6 putting about 12 to 18 batches
through per day. This year, they invested in some larger equipment.
They are keeping the small system and will make specialty beers with
it.
