Celebrate Minnesota's Heritage: Brew Beer!
Do you follow in the footsteps of Minnesota's first bootleggers at Fort
Snelling? If so, bring us your home brew to compete in The 2007 Onion Home
Brew Competition.
The winning Best of Show brewer will receive three cool prizes:
An autographed copy of The Land of Amber Waters: The History of Brewing in
Minnesota by Doug Hoverson. This book chronicles the rich brewing traditions
of Minnesota from 1849 to today and includes over 300 native breweries.
10 cases of beer from Minnesota breweries, including:
Summit Brewing
Gluek's Brewing
August Schell Brewery
Grainbelt Premium
Brau Brother's Brewery
Town Hall Brewery
Great Waters Brewing Co.
The Herkimer
Flat Earth Brewery
A $50 gift certificate from Northern Brewer.
This is a BJCP certified competition, using the 2004 BJCP Style Guidelines

Judging and awards ceremony will occur Tuesday, December 18, 2007, from 6 pm
until midnight, at the Town Hall Brewery in Minneapolis (1430 Washington
Ave. S).
BEER ONLY, NO MEAD OR CIDER!!! All 23 BJCP categories of Beer will be
accepted, however no mead or cider will be accepted or judged.
Entries accepted between December 1 and December 13, 2007; NO LATE ENTRIES!
Volunteers for judging and stewarding will be accepted between December 1
and December 13, 2007. Online registration for entries and volunteers can
be found at the link at

$2 fee per entry.
ONE (1) entry per subcategory per brewer.
TWO (2) 10-14 oz. bottles are required for each entry. No swing tops
allowed. Printed crown caps must be blacked-out with a permanent marker to
assure anonymity of all entries. Plastic bottles are OK. Bottles must be
free of labels or other identifying marks including formed-in-glass brands
or logos.
One (1) entry form must be filled out and submitted WITH EACH entry.
A Bottle ID Form must be attached to each bottle with a rubber band. No
tape, please! Bottle ID forms will be generated at registration.
Anyone of legal age may enter. Beers must be entered under the names of all
brewers who helped. Beers brewed in commercial facilities are ineligible.
The competition committee reserves the right to combine or split categories
based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine
similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to
the style they were originally entered in.
All entries become the property of The Onion. No entries will be returned
for any reason.
