Saturday, August 5th is National Mead
Day! The MN Homebrewers Association will team up with the MN Hobby Beekeepers
Association from 10:00am-2:00pm at Russ and Winnie Johnson’s apiary in
Elk River for a day of mead-making, mead tasting, and (possibly) honey
extraction.
WE ARE HOSTING A BUS TO THE APIARY.
The club bus will leave from Midwest Hoembrewing at 8:45am. Contact
AlBoyce@bigfoot.com by Aug 3, 5pm to reserve your seat. We need
to get a minimum of 15 people, at $15 each. The more people we get, the
cheaper it will be. You DON’T want to be driving home from Mead
Day!!!
The brewers will demonstrate mead-making
and provide samples of past batches, which run the gamut from varietal
honey meads to melomels, pyments, braggots and metheglyns. The beekeepers
will teach the brewers about the processes that produce the main ingredient
in mead - honey!
2005 Meadmaker of the Year Curt Stock
will be giving a presentation at 10am, so be there early!

in Elk River, MN 55330. Please bring chairs, some snacks and of course
- mead! If you would like to make mead that day, please bring a clean,
food-grade bucket with a lid, 3 lbs. of honey per gallon of mead you wish
to make, and a yeast of your choice. If you’ve not made mead before,
experienced meadmakers will be on-hand to guide you. In case of inclement
weather, the Johnsons have a barn to hide in. Please bring 2 labeled bottles
of your mead as a gift for hosting us!
