Dave, A personal and group thank you for your involvement with the
Minnesota Homebrewers Association. For allowing us to learn about you,
your current brewery, and for allowing us to assimilate knowledge every
time we met.
You were the professional who inspired me to think beyond the normal
walls of brewing, to consider various techniques and tricks. I
genuinely believe your gentle stream of information helped every home
brewer that visited your brewery to make better beer. And that
wonderful Rinwood culture!
I don't want to end this message with the typical you'll be missed since
you truly won't. The nature of communications and billboards allows a
person in the next city, state, or hemisphere to almost appear to be
next door. The good news is that you had a hand in putting together a
new brewery and hopefully it will be set up a little more logically than
the one you are leaving. Possibly with a lauter grant?
Thanks again for all of your support, encouragement, ideas, words of
wit, and common sense. I still like that comment you gave me when I was
having trouble making the hop back work right. I believe you mentioned
that a pump only has one working end and put it delicately enough so I
didn't really feel like a DS (actually I did). Thanks again for helping
out with that wonderful yeast and providing enough information to
understand what it wanted and how to keep it happy.
Please keep us advised of your new challenges and let us know when we
can charter a bus down to for a visit. Mankato is actually a convenient
stop on the trip to New Ulm.
May the hills rise to your feet as your journey of life continues. I
raise a glass (when I get home) in your honor.
Sincerely,
Rick Oftel and the Minnesota Homebrewers

Just a quick note to inform everyone of my resignation as Head Brewer at
Water Tower Brewing Company, and subsequent acceptance of Head Brewer of
Bandana Brewing Company, located in Mankato, MN.
Now before everyone gets confused thinking "Wait, there is no brewery in
Mankato," I can only respond "Yet." Equipment arrives next Wednesday,
hope to be brewing by early December, opening early January. I know,
it's a tight schedule and last time I put together a brewery I swore it
would be the last....
Thanks to everyone who supported Water Tower and myself during the last
six years--I hope to see you all in Mankato.
