John,
I was excited at first after hearing the news too, a sitting president
making his own beer! It's possible but could you imagine President Obama
or any sitting president standing over the stock pot on the stove stirring
up the wort and racking / bottling the beer. That is what I want to
see... I'm still up for giving him a honorary membership for at least
the news story is positive and helps promote the hobby of home brewing..

Tom, I hadn't heard that Obama didn't
actually make any
beer. That's too bad. Thanks for the update. John

John,
Is this membership for President Obama or whoever the
current President is? I'm not being political in any way
and this may be a good jester but just to let you know
that it was reported that President Obama only purchased
the beer brewing equipment. As far as my research can
verify or if anyone can correct me President Obama has
not participated in any brewing sessions or had any input
on the recipes. It is the White House chefs and cooking
staff that are making the beer, not President Obama. And
I do hope that who ever the next president is will
continue the white house beer brewing tradition. I just
wanted to make you aware of this and that I'm also fine
with giving President Obama a honorary membership and
inviting him to a meeting. I would imagine that the
secret service would have to taste each different home
brew before the President to make sure it's not
poisoned...

Dipak, Great idea (as was the one that Al (?)
floated a
few weeks back--the one about giving the President an
honorary club membership)! I don't know that you need a
second. As with most things in the MHBA, just spearhead
the idea if you get a little buy-in. I doubt that Obama
will meet with us, but if he did, that would be pretty
cool! Not too many homebrew clubs can say that they
entertained a President. Unless there is opposition to
the idea, then please go ahead and see what it takes to
invite the President to a meeting (you could say that
there's going to be a meeting the day that he's in MN).
As I mentioned, when someone in the club proposes an
idea, the leadership says, "Great!--Make it so and let us
know what assistance you need." Thanks,

I am certain Obama will be making at least one pit stop
in the Cities before the election.I propose we
send him an invitation to visit with us for tasting some
of our brews (and we in turn will get to taste the White
House brews that travel with him). Wonder if
other brew clubs have extended such an
invitation. Let's be the first! Or, let's
not be the only one that didn't extend an
invitation.Do we, as a club, need to vote on this
proposal? If so, please consider this as a motion
put forth by me. We need someone to second the
motion and then open up discussion prior to casting our
ballots.
So, do I hear a second??
