How do these rumors get started? Someone said to me the other night they
heard Crisp was closing, to which I responded "I find that hard to
believe, I just saw William Crisp in Cleveland." I thought whomever I
was talking to was just misinformed; I didn't realize the mill had been
whipped into high speed. Rest assured, both Kelly and Dingemanns are
doing an excellent job filling in the gap left by DWC closing.

I haven't kept up with this as much as some of
you so, here's an
update from
an excellent source. Kelly has long supported the MHBA and his
effort in
the industry has caused much positive change.

Hey Guys,
I learned from one of my colleagues that the rumor mill was
kicked into high
gear at the last MHB meeting about the closure of DeWolf-Cosyns,
etc.
Please, do me a huge favor and spread the real
facts to the
membership.
DeWolf-Cosyns was NOT closed down by Cargill. Rather it was
closed down by
Interbrew, it's sole owner, as a part of their long-term
strategy to get out
of the malting industry. In fact, Cargill, and yours truly,
tried several
different things to keep DeWolf maltings in Aalst open for
business.
Realizing that this was going to be a losing
battle, I did
the next best
thing and reached an agreement with Belgium's only other
specialty malt
house, Dingemans of Stabroek, where many of the DeWolf
recipes will live on.
All of the Dingemans malts are in stock at our warehouse and
the initial
response has been extremely positive.
Contrary to another rumor that is circulating, Cargill is in
no way, shape
or form closing down Crisp Maltings. We have zero ownership
in Dingemans,
Crisp, Pauls, Meussdoerffer, Weyermann or any of the other
excellent
products that we represent and distribute to the
North
American market. We
are strictly in the business of marketing and distributing
these products.
I feel silly for even having to answer to these mistruths, but
I've
personally given a lot of myself in building the
Specialty
Malt division at
Cargill. Please share the true facts with your membership and
please
encourage your members to contact me directly
with any
additional questions
at Kelly_Kuehl(a)cargill.com or at 952-881-3310.
Thank you,
