Mike,
I understand your concerns, and they may be valid points. As a representative of the
SPHBClub I can state the we know what a campout is. This will be a different venue than
past campout events and we'll have to wait and see if it will be a failure or not.
We will be sharing the location with other people. That doesn't mean you have to
sleep with them, or even talk to them if you don't want to. Dan Jutsen was kind
enough to offer to share the location with us. These other folks may even have an
interest in homebrewing. As homebrew clubs, one of our goals is to teach people about
beer and bring new brewers into the hobby. This may be a good chance to provide that very
function.
When the SPHBC was given the responsibility to host this years event, many suggestions
were made to me on how the campout could be improved. The most common suggestion was the
selection of a more modern site, even if it would cost a fee. $35 per adult for the
weekend seems pretty fair to me. But I could be wrong. Also it could be cheaper if we
have more people attend.
I have only participated in one Club Campout so far (last year), so I don't have a
full grasp on the history of the event. So basically I'm giving it my best shot with
the help and backing of our membership. I know you are an avid camper and would obviously
enjoy the hardcore camping to the current event. But some people may prefer this
year's venue. I guess pleasing everyone would be nearly impossible. Once again
we'll see what people think when it's all over.
I hope you attend and help make it a fun event.
Anyone is welcome to comment and respond.
Thanks
Curt Stock

I just got a chance to look at the campout info and I have to say I'm a
little disappointed. Maybe there was some misunderstanding on the part of
the SPHB about this event being a CAMPOUT for the area homebrew clubs.
Who are these other folks, and why do we have to pay $35 to sleep with them
in bunkbeds? I for one was looking forward to camping with our friends and
it appears that it is not allowed at the location. The All-club event is
meant to bring the area clubs together for sharing homebrew and camaraderie.
Anyone else confused by the campout with no camping? Lastly, anybody catch
the rule about having to mop and clean the showers and toilets? :-(

Campers/Brewers/Interested Persons
The Inter-Club Campout will be held on July 16-18, 2004.
It will be held at the:
St. Croix State Park
Head of the Rapids Group Center
Near Hinckley, MN
It will be a little different than previous years. Check out the
website below for more details.
http://summersizzlerfriends.homestead.com/Campout2004.html
We will be sharing the site with another group who has graciously
invited us to join them.
There are bunk houses, showers, a large lodge, professional style
kitchen and more.
There will also be a charge this year for use of the facility and
cleaning supplies. The charge initially is $35 per adult. This cost
will likely go down as the number of attendees goes up. Something will
be decided about people who will only be there for one night. Likely
there won't be a charge for day visitors. There will also be the St.
Park access fee, $10per vehicle I think?
Sorry for the minimal information. More details will be sent out soon.
Maps and stuff like that. Until then you can direct any questions or
concerns to me at:

Please send this to any other area club that may be interested.
